Operational Description

Sorsele Library is an integrated public library with an open main library in the main town of Sorsele and partially staffed branches in Ammarnäs and Gargnäs. The library operates under the Culture and Leisure Unit. Sorsele municipality is a Sami administrative municipality, and the library actively works with activities related to that mission. The library often runs various projects. In 2026, we have the projects Bookstart and Stranger Things at the Library. The library is also part of the Littforsfestivalen.

Since 2005, the library has been part of the “V8 Library Cooperation in Västerbotten's inland”. The other libraries included are: Dorotea, Lycksele, Malå, Norsjö, Storuman, Vilhelmina, and Åsele. The purpose of the collaboration is to strengthen the libraries in Västerbotten's inland, improve quality, and facilitate access to information and literature for inland residents.

Job Responsibilities

As a librarian responsible for children and youth in Sorsele municipality, you have primary responsibility for our prioritized target group of children and youth. This responsibility includes planning and implementing events, activities, development work, purchases, and class visits. In addition, you will work together with the Head Librarian to manage and develop the library operations as a whole in Sorsele municipality.

Since Sorsele Library is a small unit, there are many different types of tasks, which means good development opportunities for you and the organization. You will work with common library tasks such as desk staffing, book handling, and cataloging. In your role as a librarian at Sorsele Library, you will meet people from various target groups and collaborate with other operations. You will also be part of one of V8's working groups, which will support your work.

Your Qualities

You have a good ability to work independently and in a structured manner in your work while also being able to collaborate and cooperate well both within and outside the library operations. You enjoy meeting people of different ages and backgrounds and have the ability to create good encounters. Being service-oriented and pedagogical are important qualities. Likewise, being development-oriented and creative in your role is essential. You are proactive and create activities that are beneficial for the organization, and you have a positive attitude and find joy in your work.

Previous experience working in a library is advantageous.

Eligibility Requirements

A university degree in Library and Information Science or education that the employer deems equivalent.

Duration/Working Hours

Full-time, permanent employment. The position may start with a six-month probationary period. Start date according to agreement.

The municipality applies individual salary setting.
