About us

The forensic psychiatry unit is a unique operation within Sahlgrenska University Hospital, located in Gunnilse, about 20 minutes by public transport from central Gothenburg.

The mission of the forensic psychiatry unit is to provide individually tailored psychiatric care and rehabilitation to patients who have been sentenced to care. The unit has open and closed care facilities with enhanced security classification and also cares for patients deprived of liberty under other legislation when they need acute psychiatric specialist care.

The forensic psychiatry unit has a community protection responsibility, where the goal is for patients to manage life in society without reoffending due to mental illness. Thus, the forensic psychiatry unit has a dual mission, both community protection and care.

The unit has six closed care units and in addition, there is an activity house, an outpatient clinic, and additional units with important functions for the operation. Our units work in close collaboration with the research unit CELAM (Center for Ethics, Law, and Mental Health).

What do we offer you?

The forensic psychiatry unit conducts and develops specialist care with a focus on interdisciplinary rehabilitation. Our goal is to offer a stimulating and developing work environment, where you, in close collaboration with colleagues from various professions, provide care, rehabilitation, and treatment. Within forensic psychiatry at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, you will have the opportunity for continuous further education according to local goals and your own interests.

You will have access to the unit's rehabilitation facilities, such as a gym and pool, for personal use. Through effective routines, dynamic security, participation, and competent staff, we together create a good and safe working environment.

Job responsibilities

As a caregiver within forensic psychiatry, you will work with both care and community protection. You will be part of a team with several professional categories where you, as a caregiver, play a central and important role. Together with your colleagues, you will work on a long-term care plan, where you have a motivating, supportive, and active role in the patient's rehabilitation. Documentation in patient records is also an important part of the job.

As a caregiver, it is part of your responsibilities to maintain a good working environment in the care unit together with your colleagues. Your attitude and contributions are crucial for the operation to be characterized by calm, well-being, care, and safety.

About you

We are looking for someone who is a trained caregiver/nursing assistant. Experience in psychiatry is an advantage. You are a calm and secure person with a genuine interest in people in vulnerable situations. You have the ability to listen, understand, set boundaries, and motivate. You are structured in your work and responsible.

We have a close collaboration with both our emergency units and our outpatient clinic, which means that flexibility and teamwork are qualities we value in an employment with us. As an employee, you are also expected to participate physically in self-defense training that occurs continuously at the workplace.
