Ecologist for Malmö City Planning and Sustainability Department

We need to strengthen our ecological competence to meet both legislative requirements and Malmö City's ambitious goals for biodiversity. Together with the municipal ecologist, you will work to enhance nature consideration in the planning process and proactively collaborate with developers regarding existing natural values, as well as raise awareness about biodiversity internally and externally.

Job Responsibilities

You will be involved in ongoing physical planning for housing, community services, public spaces, businesses, and more based on your ecological expertise. In collaboration with the municipal ecologist, you will also work on strategic planning regarding nature conservation.

Examples of job responsibilities:

  • Responsible for handling nature conservation matters and supervision according to Chapter 7 of the Environmental Code
  • Participate in the work with detailed comprehensive plans, planning programs, and detailed plans
  • Preliminary field inventory before the start of new detailed plans
  • Participate in the city's nature conservation group

Qualifications

We are looking for an ecologist with a few years of work experience in areas such as natural value inventory, case handling, or other nature conservation work that we assess to be relevant for the position. You need to drive your work forward while also having the ability to collaborate well, be creative, and find solutions together with colleagues within Malmö City. You should have a pedagogical mindset and spark curiosity about biodiversity both for construction stakeholders and Malmö residents. You have an understanding of what it entails and the ability to work in a politically governed organization and act professionally in your authority.

Requirements for the position:

  • Scientific bachelor's degree equivalent to 180 credits in ecology, biology, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer
  • At least two years of work experience in areas such as natural value inventory, case handling, or other nature conservation work that the employer assesses to be relevant for the position
  • Good knowledge of nature conservation legislation in Chapter 7 of the Environmental Code and the Species Protection Ordinance
  • Some species knowledge and species identification
  • Good ability to express oneself in Swedish, both orally and in writing

Meritorious:

  • Experience in physical planning, comprehensive planning, or detailed planning
  • GIS competence
  • Driver's license

The Department of City Planning and Sustainability works with a wide range of urban development issues. Comprehensive planning and detailed planning are important tools, as are strategic documents for nature conservation, mobility, housing supply, and equality.
