About the Position
The Waste Department's broad and important mission is to collect and recycle waste, produce and distribute biogas, and work with the municipality's waste plan. Together, we work to reduce waste volumes, increase reuse and material recycling, and contribute to reduced climate impact and increased engagement in sustainable resource use.
As department manager, you are responsible for leading, developing, and future-proofing the operations, both strategically and operationally. Together with engaged employees and managers in the company, you contribute to high quality in deliveries, satisfied customers, and a safe and inspiring work environment. You are also responsible for the company's two business-driven operations, Hovgården's waste facility and the Biogas Plant, which involves business development, efficiency, and profitability in close collaboration with the operations.
You will be part of Uppsala Vatten's management team and actively contribute to driving the company's development forward together with other members. Your role is crucial for realizing Uppsala Vatten's goals and visions through concrete initiatives, effective processes, and clear results.
You will also play a central role in driving the development of future waste management, focusing on sustainability and efficiency that contributes to and enables the municipality's growth.
Your Responsibilities Include:
- Personnel responsibility – You lead a department with four sections and associated managers. In total, the department has about 60 employees.
- Responsibility for the facilities Hovgården, the Biogas Plant, and eight recycling stations with associated production responsibility.
- Operational safety related to facility assets, work environment, and safety.
- Financial and budget responsibility for the department. Also responsible for the waste fee under the municipality's responsibility.
- Represent the company in the waste area towards both internal and external stakeholders.
- Representative for the waste department in the company's management team.

Qualifications
- Relevant higher education in e.g. environmental science, alternatively as a civil engineer.
- At least five years of work experience in a strategic, leading position with budget, personnel, and work environment responsibility.
- Previous experience leading other managers.
- Fluent in both Swedish and English, spoken and written.
- Driver's license B is a requirement.
- Previous work experience in waste management is an advantage.
- Previous experience in staff and crisis management is an advantage.
- Previous experience leading business-driven operations is an advantage.

A large part of our operations is classified as critical societal functions as we supply Sweden's fourth largest city with drinking water. For this position, a security clearance with a background check will be conducted prior to employment. You should also be prepared to be assigned to a military position within the framework of Uppsala Vatten and Waste's role in total defense. Uppsala Vatten applies a 6-month probationary period.
