Officer in Air Defense
Do you have an academic degree and want to become an officer in air defense?
If you have an academic degree of 180 higher education credits (including a 15-credit thesis) and meet the qualifications listed below, you can apply for a position as an officer (OF) or specialist officer (SO) without first completing officer training. The position includes up to 20 months of studies, Special Officer Training (SOFU), with salary. Once you complete your studies, your service will begin at the Air Defense Regiment Lv 6 in Halmstad.
Lv 6 is part of the army and operates from the ground – but with air as the primary area of work. Air surveillance is conducted using radar and in cooperation with air combat forces. The mission of the Air Defense Regiment is to monitor and protect the airspace from threats both nationally and internationally. The air defense is facing significant and expansive changes in personnel, equipment, and training locations.
Main Responsibilities
Your main task as an officer is to lead military operations by commanding combat units or working in staff roles as a staff officer or commander. You will work to lead and develop others; you are a leader responsible for personnel and operations. As a leader, you are proactive and can motivate and inspire others. As a specialist, you will develop within your area of expertise with opportunities for a career in a wide range of other areas such as education, development, operations management, or long-term planning, among others. This is the job for you if you want a varied everyday life with a mix of troop training, troop leadership, and administrative duties. Typically, service begins (after training) at the platoon level, where you are often involved in the training of conscripts.
Requirements
- Academic education of at least 180 credits from a university or college, including a written thesis of at least 15 credits. Foreign degrees must be validated by UHR.
- Approved military basic training (conscription/GU) in Sweden
- Completed group commander training in the Armed Forces with a passing result
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English in both spoken and written form
- Driving license B (for manual transmission)
Meritorious
- Academic education with a technical focus
- Experience in air defense
- Experience in the Armed Forces and a good understanding of what is expected of you in your upcoming position as an Officer.
- Leadership experience from professional life

- The recruitment process includes testing at the Duty and Assessment Agency (PPV). During this assessment, you will undergo various physical tests as well as an interview with a psychologist and a doctor.
- If you proceed in the recruitment process after PPV tests, you will undergo interviews and security assessments at Lv 6.
- Employment type: permanent employment starting with a 6-month probationary period.
- Work location: Halmstad. However, you may be ordered to serve temporarily at another location, including abroad.
- Start date: week 31 for training starting Monday week 32 in Stockholm (for OF), and start week 33 for training starting week 34 in Halmstad (for SO).
- Salary: from 31,000 SEK.
- Whether employment occurs as OF or SO is based on the results of tests at PPV and Lv 6's assessment of your leadership qualities.
