Kriminalvården is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the prison/remand center are varied: care, surveillance, searches, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work. Work at the remand center is often routine-oriented and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the remand center, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer.

Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share Kriminalvården's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.

You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction over three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in Kriminalvården's mandatory basic training, which lasts for 8 weeks. You will receive a salary throughout the training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted for your opportunity for permanent employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Work experience, including seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
• Completed high school education or other education in combination with work experience that Kriminalvården deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
• Good computer skills.

It is an advantage if you have:

• Work experience from corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care work.
• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
• Relevant language skills.

OTHER

Kriminalvården has chosen to remove the personal letter and replaced it with selection questions that are relevant to the position. The answers to the selection questions and CV will form the basis for whether you are qualified to proceed in the process.

Some positions are classified in a security class, and a security check with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made.
