JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the prison are varied: care, surveillance, searches, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work. Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for others and contribute to a better society.

To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.

You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction for three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the mandatory basic training of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, which lasts 8 weeks. You will receive a salary throughout the training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted for your opportunity for permanent employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment.
  • Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service considers relevant.
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
  • Good computer skills.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Work experience in corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social work.
  • A valid driver's license (B).
  • Knowledge in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
  • Relevant language skills.

OTHER

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to remove the personal letter and replace it with selection questions that are relevant to the position. The answers to the selection questions and CV will form the basis for whether you are qualified to proceed in the process.

This means that you uphold democratic values and the state values that apply to the operations of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

Some positions are classified in security class, and a security review with background checks will be conducted before a hiring decision is made.
