Summer Job as a Chef or Kitchen Assistant in Elderly Care

Jönköping Municipality is a large employer with hundreds of different job roles. We are growing in line with the municipality's development with more residents, more housing, and a larger range of services. We are always on the lookout for new talent - employees with diverse backgrounds and experiences, united by the common drive to create a better municipality to visit, live, work, and reside in.

Do you have a passion for cooking and want to make a difference in the daily lives of our elderly? We are now looking for dedicated chefs who want to work as summer staff in the elderly care's food services.

Here, good taste, quality, and joy in food are in focus. Perhaps you are the one we are looking for? Welcome to submit your application today!

Your Summer Job

In elderly care, we actively work to ensure that food and the dining experience are a natural part of daily life and one of the great joys of the day for our elderly.

As a chef with us, you will play an important role in creating good, nutritious, and well-prepared food from scratch. The work also includes preparing special diets and food with adapted consistency. The job includes all tasks that occur in a large kitchen, such as salad preparation, dishwashing, cleaning, quality control, and serving. The tasks vary, and work is done according to a rotating schedule. This way, you will learn all the tasks that occur in the kitchen.

The elderly care sector has a total of 14 kitchens with about 100 employees who produce approximately 3300 servings every day, both for our own restaurants and for individual homes.

Who are you?

We are primarily looking for you who are a trained chef, but there are also opportunities for you who are a kitchen assistant if needed.

To be employed as a chef, you must:

  • Have completed a secondary education in restaurant and food or equivalent adult education as a chef, as well as previous experience working as a chef.

To be employed as a trained kitchen assistant, you must:

  • Have an ongoing or completed secondary education in restaurant and food or equivalent adult education.

If you lack education but have an interest in food and cooking, you can work as an untrained kitchen assistant.

Previous experience in cooking in large kitchens is an advantage. You must be proficient in Swedish, both spoken and written, as you need to communicate with citizens and colleagues and be able to write and read notes in your daily work. You must also be at least 18 years old to work with us.

As a person, you are responsible and understand the importance of high quality and good service levels. You are a team player who finds it easy to collaborate and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. Of course, you have a great interest in cooking.

We place great importance on personal suitability for the position!

What do we offer you?

We offer a varied job with a contractual salary and an introduction to the work. You will work with competent and experienced colleagues and have the opportunity for valuable exchanges of experience and development.

If you have previously worked as a summer staff member in the Social Administration of Jönköping Municipality, you may be eligible for a return bonus at the end of the summer.

Good to know

The recruitment concerns summer vacancies as a chef or kitchen assistant in several of our kitchens within Jönköping Municipality's elderly care. Working hours are scheduled during the day, both on weekdays and during weekend shifts that occur approximately every other weekend. The employment rate is full-time or as agreed.

Our summer period extends from week 25 to 34, but the greatest need for summer staff is between weeks 29 and 33. We prefer that you who apply can work continuously during these weeks.

Bus and train connections are limited to some of our elderly homes located in the municipality's outskirts. Therefore, it is an advantage if you have a B driver's license and access to a car or other transportation if you do not live in the area.

Application

In your application, we would like you to specify/attach the following:

  • Which weeks you can work this summer
  • Which geographical areas you are most interested in working in. Keep in mind that you should be able to travel to and from the workplaces in the areas you choose.
  • Proof of employment and study certificates, or a transcript of completed courses in your ongoing education.

Does this sound like a summer job for you? Then do not hesitate to submit your application! We meet candidates continuously throughout the entire advertisement period.
