Image Intelligence Assistant to the Air Staff's Intelligence and Security Department

The Chief of the Air Force exercises command over the air combat forces and the units of the Air Force with the support of the Air Staff. The Air Staff is an organizational unit among others in the Air Force, but with the mandate to handle all missions, tasks, and directives assigned to the Air Force, thereby directing, leading, and following up on the Air Force and its operations. The Air Staff is led by the Chief of the Air Staff (C FS) and organizationally contains a number of departments and sections.

About the Department

The primary task of the Air Staff's Intelligence and Security Department (FS A2) is to support the Chief of the Air Force and other staff members with situational awareness, early warning, and other decision-making support. The department functionally leads subordinate units regarding intelligence and security services at all levels of readiness.

The Position Offers

As an image intelligence assistant, you will have the opportunity to develop yourself within the intelligence and security service function together with others. You will work with interesting and varied tasks at the air operational command level. The position includes opportunities for personal development through participation in operations and exercises, method and development work, as well as competence development both generally and functionally specific, both within and outside Sweden's borders.

Main Responsibilities

  • Be part of the department's collection section and thereby support and participate in the operational activities, management, and planning of the intelligence and security department.
  • Support the immediate supervisor and the head of the intelligence and security department with operational, information management, and other management support.
  • Process information from image-generating sensors and produce image intelligence reports.
  • Collaborate with other branches of the Armed Forces, external actors, and international organizations within the framework of assigned tasks.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Completed military service, GMU, or equivalent Swedish military basic training with a passing result.
  • Good computer skills with standard programs (e.g., Office) and knowledge in the IT field.
  • Good ability to express oneself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English.
  • Swedish citizenship.
  • Normal color vision and stereoscopic vision.
  • Approved regarding FM FysS, Level 1.
  • Driving license B.

Personal Qualities

As a person, you are structured and have a good ability to handle large amounts of information. You have a good ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others. You possess strong analytical skills and can oversee wholes and systems without overlooking consequences at the detail level. You are proactive and driven with a desire to learn new things and dare to actively participate in finding solutions to problems.

You have a good ability to collaborate with others and value good cooperation between both functions and branches of the Armed Forces. Resilience to stress and the ability to handle changing situations and rapidly arising tasks are desirable qualities.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.

DESIRABLE

  • Completed staff service training or obtained equivalent competence through previous experiences/service.
  • Education and knowledge in intelligence and security services.
  • Education and knowledge in image intelligence, remote sensing, geographic information systems, or image processing.
  • Education and knowledge in recognizing foreign combat forces.
  • Experience handling classified information.
  • Completed Continued Group Command Training (FGBU).

OTHER

Employment form: Military position. Fixed-term employment according to the GSS/K agreement for a maximum of 8 years. A probationary period of 6 months applies for new employment in the Armed Forces.

Employment degree: Full-time. The position involves work at irregular hours as well as longer continuous shifts during exercises and operations, sometimes at other workplaces and countries without the possibility of returning home.

Work location: Uppsala. Business trips within Sweden and abroad may occur.

Start date: As soon as possible by agreement.

Salary and benefits: According to collective agreement.

The primary and largest task of the Air Staff is to support the Chief of the Air Force's command of all squadrons and schools in the Air Force at all levels of the conflict scale. The Air Staff develops, plans, implements, and evaluates orders and directives issued by the Chief of the Air Force. The Air Staff consists of approximately 350 employees. The Air Force organizes and trains air, base, and command units and has the task of monitoring and protecting Sweden's airspace. This is a mission that continues around the clock, year-round, to ensure Sweden's integrity. Approximately 5,100 employees, both civilian and military, work within the Air Force.

Employment with us means placement in a security class. Usually, Swedish citizenship is required.
