Forensic Medical Assistant at the National Board of Forensic Medicine in Umeå

Do you want a workday where your contribution matters? At the National Board of Forensic Medicine, we work with everything from medical analyses and genetic investigations to psychiatric assessments. Regardless of your role, you contribute to legal security.

We are now looking for a forensic medical assistant for the forensic medicine unit in Umeå. The unit consists of nearly 20 employees who work together to conduct forensic autopsies and issue forensic certificates.

Your mission

As a forensic medical assistant, you will primarily work to practically prepare and assist in forensic autopsies. This includes performing organ extractions and sampling, preparing the deceased, and related work in the morgue. The role also involves contact with the police, relatives, and funeral contractors. Other tasks within the framework of the unit's and department's assignments may also occur, such as performing CT scans of the deceased.

Qualifications:

  • At least a high school diploma, e.g., nursing assistant training, or equivalent education deemed comparable by the National Board of Forensic Medicine
  • Relevant work experience as assessed by the employer
  • Good knowledge of Swedish in both spoken and written form

Meritorious

  • Current experience in autopsy work including work with CT scanning of the deceased
  • Documented course/training in anatomy

Personal qualities and abilities

To handle the work, both integrity and personal maturity are required. The tasks are both physically and mentally challenging. They include fine motor skills as well as physically demanding tasks, which require good physical condition, and the work with death investigations requires the ability to handle difficult events.

The work requires a high level of quality awareness and good teamwork skills. We see that you are attentive to the needs of the organization and colleagues and contribute to a good working environment. If necessary, other tasks within the framework of the unit's and department's assignments may also occur, which is why a flexible approach is a prerequisite for the role.

Employment

The employment is a fixed-term full-time position for eight weeks during the summer period of 2026. Start date is according to agreement. Placement in Umeå. The National Board of Forensic Medicine applies individual salary setting.

The Department of Forensic Medicine conducts approximately 5,500 forensic autopsies each year on behalf of the police and prosecutors. We also investigate suspected perpetrators and victims of violent crimes. Within the Department of Forensic Medicine, there are six forensic medical units located in Umeå, Uppsala, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Linköping, and Lund.
