Your workplace

The psychiatric inpatient care consists of a psychiatric emergency department, five care wards, a resource department, and a Dependency Center which is a HVB home. The operations are located in specially adapted facilities for the target group in the Psychiatry House, Central Hospital in Karlstad. We have about 200 employees with various professional backgrounds, including doctors, nurses, caregivers, treatment assistants, treatment consultants, occupational therapists, social workers, operational developers, and administrative staff. Together, we provide specialized psychiatric care and treatment.

The psychiatric emergency department is open around the clock and receives patients in need of acute psychiatric care or assessment. The mission is to receive and assess patients with psychiatric illnesses and acute substance abuse issues.

At the psychiatric emergency department, you will have both nursing and caregiver colleagues with extensive experience in psychiatry, and the majority of our nurses are specialist nurses in psychiatry. Here, you will find colleagues with great knowledge and competence who will support you as a newcomer.

The position is a mixed role, covering days, evenings, and nights. If you wish to work permanent nights, there are opportunities for this.

Your responsibilities

The tasks are many and varied. At the psychiatric emergency department, nurses, caregivers, and doctors work in teams. As a nurse, you will work alongside caregivers during the triage of patients arriving at the psychiatric emergency department according to RETT-S. You will perform acute nursing interventions and assessments, participate in doctor consultations, and provide support to others in the team and outside the organization in patient assessments.

Within psychiatric inpatient care, we work across departmental boundaries, helping each other when needed, which provides great opportunities for varied tasks and professional development within the organization.

Your skills and competencies

We are looking for a licensed nurse; it is advantageous to be a specialist nurse in psychiatry and/or have experience in psychiatric care or emergency care. A B driver's license is desirable but not a requirement.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability, where good collaboration skills, flexibility, and clarity are important traits. We also see that you have the ability to lead, motivate, and coordinate groups. You communicate clearly and professionally in speech and work carefully and systematically in your tasks.
