Development Officer at the Swedish Armed Forces

Testing Section

As a development officer, you will be placed at the testing section, which drives method and material development for the Swedish Armed Forces' (FM) protection against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats (CBRN protection). The protection may include how CBRN threats are detected, identified, and decontaminated.

Main Responsibilities

You will be involved in the entire development process from investigation and requirement specification of upcoming material procurement needs to the development of methods, publications, and training aids for the use of new materials. This will be done through tests, field trials, and participation in extensive projects and studies. As a development officer, you report to the head of the testing section and have a wide variety of tasks, including physical training.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Officer's degree (SOU, OP, or equivalent) with at least 5 years of service
  • Good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing
  • Driver's license B (manual)

  • Experience in development work, within capability and concept development as well as testing methodology
  • Experience in project management

The Total Defense Protection Center, SkyddC, in Umeå is the Swedish Armed Forces' knowledge center for protection against radiation, infection, and toxins in so-called CBRN events. The unit not only develops the Armed Forces' units in the field but also ensures capability across the Armed Forces' other parts. SkyddC therefore works with both training and development issues and is responsible for maintaining national and international preparedness in the area. The center's function is joint defense, which means ongoing cooperation with several authorities within our area of expertise. At SkyddC, over 140 civilian and military employees work. The unit's budget amounts to approximately 140 million kronor per year.
