Study Officer at the Total Defense Protection Center in Umeå
The Swedish Armed Forces (FM) is experiencing significant growth and is now seeking study officers for the studies section at the Total Defense Protection Center (SkyddC) in Umeå.
The Studies Section
The mission of the studies section is to build the foundation and framework for the function of protection against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats and incidents (CBRN protection) throughout FM by conducting long-term structured development in the CBRN area. The section is part of the development department and supports the department in its other activities such as method development, trials, and procurement.
Main Responsibilities
You will work on long-term development through studies (both your own and others'), CBRN system development plans, capability and concept development, and technology development. The work involves close collaboration with other functions and authorities within total defense, such as the Total Defense Research Institute (FOI) and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV). You will also support the development of objectives for military units and specifications.
You may also be involved in the entire development process from investigating future procurement needs to developing methods, publications, and training aids for the use of new equipment.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Military officer exam (SOU, OP, or equivalent) with at least 5 years of service
- Good ability to express oneself in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing
- Driver's license (manual)

MERITORIOUS
- Experience leading and participating in the Armed Forces' study activities
- Knowledge of the Armed Forces' development and procurement processes
- CBRN competence
- Experience in development work
- Experience in capability and concept development
- Served at combat or functional schools

The Total Defense Protection Center, SkyddC, in Umeå is the Armed Forces' knowledge center for protection against radiation, infection, and toxic so-called CBRN incidents. The unit not only develops the Armed Forces' units in the area but also ensures capability across the Armed Forces' other parts. SkyddC therefore works with both training and development issues and is responsible for maintaining national and international preparedness in the area. The center's function is joint defense, which means ongoing cooperation with several authorities within our area of expertise. At SkyddC, over 140 civilian and military employees work. The unit's budget amounts to approximately 140 million kronor per year.
