Job Advertisement: Cook for the Swedish Prison and Probation Service in Kalmar

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transportation.

The detention center and prison in Kalmar together form the operational area of Kalmar and are thus organizationally the same unit. Employees working in Kalmar serve periodically at the detention center and the prison depending on the needs of the operation. The prison in Kalmar has 77 places in security class 2, it is the oldest in the country and was built in 1852. The detention center in Kalmar has 50 places. Both facilities are located in central Kalmar, just a few minutes' walk from the central station. The operational area of Kalmar has approximately 130 employees.

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service in Kalmar has several new establishments underway. This results in an increased need for staff regarding various roles and services.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We at the operational area of Kalmar are now looking for a skilled and creative cook for summer jobs/hourly employment in our team! As a cook in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you play a particularly important role in society. Your daily work has a direct impact on the health, well-being, and safety of our inmates.

With us, you will be part of a team of four cooks and a kitchen manager. As a cook, you primarily prepare meals for inmates at the Kalmar prison and detention center, but also for inmates in police custody and for staff. Your workplace is based at the prison.

The job responsibilities include the usual tasks in a large kitchen such as preparing, cooking, and portioning food, handling dishwashing and cleaning of kitchen facilities, and performing self-checks in accordance with current legislation. Preparation of special diets occurs continuously.

The work is partially in collaboration with correctional staff internally as well as with external suppliers/controllers. The job also includes the ability to communicate with and guide the inmates you serve.

You will work daytime according to a set schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS

As a person, you are stable and secure, you work well with others, and you also have the ability to work independently. You have good judgment and take responsibility for your tasks.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Restaurant or large kitchen education at the high school level or other education combined with experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service considers relevant (high school diploma required)
• Ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish

It is an advantage if you have:

• Experience working in large kitchens
• Experience with self-checks
• Experience with special diets
• Relevant language skills
• B driver's license
