SGU's mission is to meet society's need for geological information for sustainable societal development. As interest in land use, natural resources, and climate adaptation increases, there is a growing need for geological information in society. Therefore, we are now looking for a unit manager who is interested in driving and developing our soil geological operations at the Department of Community Planning!
The Department of Community Planning is divided into five units and consists of approximately 60 employees. The operations collect, interpret, compile, and provide geological information used in community planning and conduct externally funded assignments. At the same time, we develop and optimize our data flows and data analyses through the use of modern technologies and methods such as automation, artificial intelligence, and 3D modeling.
Currently, 14 employees work in the Soil Planning unit. The operations focus on providing our users with the right information about soil types, soil thickness, landslides and avalanches, coastal erosion, wetlands, and acid sulfate soils. In addition, the operations include handling cases for measures against natural disasters as well as producing referral statements, guides, and expert support. As the demand for our expertise and products increases, we are now looking for an engaged unit manager who wants to take over the leadership of our soil geological unit and further develop the unit.
Responsibilities
In the role of unit manager within SGU, you will be significant for the successful development of the operations. As a unit manager, you are responsible for planning, leading, and following up on the unit and ensuring that you work in accordance with SGU's and the state's values, goals, and strategies. As a unit manager, you have personnel, budget, and work environment responsibilities. Your tasks include supporting and motivating employees so that you together achieve set goals. You are expected to represent SGU in various contexts and collaborate with key stakeholders in society for the operations. You are also part of the management team for the Department of Community Planning, where you, together with your managerial colleagues, develop department-wide strategies and exchange thoughts and ideas.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with an inspiring and stable leadership style, where your good overview and communication skills open up for collaboration between people. You have a trust-based leadership style and create an open discussion climate where employees feel involved and engaged. At the same time, you have the ability to make decisions and follow up on operations in a clear and responsible manner. You also dare to positively challenge the operations to find the most innovative and effective solutions and retain engaged employees. You are motivated by collaborating and having good dialogues with other authorities and societal actors to maximize the societal benefit of SGU's operations.
Your managerial experience should have included responsibility for personnel, including work environment, finances, and operations.
We are looking for someone who has:
- a relevant university or college degree for the position
- several years of experience as a manager
- experience collaborating within the public sector
- very good ability to express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English
Meritorious experiences and competencies:
- experience or competence in the unit's subject areas
- conducted continuous competence development in leadership
- experience and competence in change and development work
- experience and competence in goal and strategy work

About the employment
Employment type: Permanent full-time employment, where we apply a six-month probationary period. The managerial appointment is time-limited. Start date is according to agreement.

Additional information: Possibility for remote work exists. In your role as unit manager, trust-based working hours apply.
The position is security classified, and a security review including a background check will be conducted on the final candidate. A security clearance is required for the position before a hiring decision is made.
