Unit Manager in Medical Technology

As a manager at the Medical Products Agency, you act with commitment, courage, and trust, focusing on the whole and the common mission. Together, we work for the health of people and animals – for a better Sweden, today and in the future.

Are you an experienced manager and leader with an interest in medical technology? The Medical Products Agency is developing a new area of operations for its growing mission in medical technology and is now seeking unit-level managers.

Our Operations

The Medical Products Agency is tasked with ensuring that medical devices in Sweden are safe, effective, and suitable for their intended purpose. The operations have been conducted for several years within a unit for medical technology and currently consists of nearly 80 people. There is significant and rapid development in this area. To meet the increased expectations on the authority, the operational area of Medical Technology was established on January 1, 2026, consisting of three units and a staff unit.

The newly formed unit for Regulations and Regulatory Support is responsible for following and working on the development of regulations and guidelines related to the medical technology area, including participating at the EU level and providing regulatory support in the form of information and advice. With the pace of technological development and increased digitalization, there is an expansion of the mission in areas such as cybersecurity, AI, information security, and health data management. This means that there is a lot of regulatory development occurring beyond the medical technology regulations.

We operate in a multidisciplinary environment in close collaboration with authorities in Sweden and other European countries, the industry, and the healthcare sector.

Your Responsibilities

As a unit manager, you have personnel responsibility and are responsible for leadership, planning, and operational follow-up within your unit. Since the unit is newly formed, the focus is on building and developing, as well as establishing working methods and collaborations. The unit for Regulations and Regulatory Support will initially consist of about 15 employees divided into two groups, one of which reports directly to the unit manager. The work is carried out in close collaboration with colleagues within the operational area, but also with other parts of the Medical Products Agency. You lead and distribute work within the unit and create conditions for the individual development of employees.

The managerial role also includes responsibility for the work environment and representing the authority externally, both within and outside Sweden's borders. You will be part of a management group, together with the other three unit managers, led by the director of the area. In this context, you work with a holistic perspective, contribute to collaboration, and the common development.

Your Background

We are looking for someone with a degree in natural sciences or another relevant higher education. You have several years of relevant experience, including managerial experience with personnel responsibility, from work in the life sciences area, where experience in medical technology is particularly meritorious. Relevant experience in working in an international environment, working with regulations, and working in a government agency is also meritorious.

You have a good ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in Swedish and English.

Your Personal Qualities

You are an engaged and development-oriented leader, accustomed to working in dialogue with your employees and managerial colleagues to drive change and development. You have the ability to inspire and enthuse others and, in close collaboration with the operations, lead towards a clear goal. You work with a holistic perspective, in an unpretentious and attentive manner, and show trust in your employees. You are interested in people and have a good ability to communicate and build good relationships. You can also, when necessary, be clear and make challenging decisions. The tasks also require that you are comfortable representing your operations in a trustworthy manner, both internally in the organization and in external contexts. We place great importance on personal suitability.
