Are you ready for a bigger task?

The Swedish Police Authority is Sweden's largest authority with approximately 40,000 employees across the country. With us, you have the opportunity to contribute to the Police's mission – to increase safety and reduce crime in society.

Police Region East is organized into three police areas: Södermanland, Östergötland, and Jönköping, which are further divided into nine local police areas. Additionally, there are three regional units: the operational unit, the investigation unit, and the intelligence unit, a regional office, and national departments represented in the region to support police operations.

The Local Police Area Höglandet is part of the Jönköping police area. Within the local police area, there are intervention and crime prevention activities, investigation groups, as well as support and service.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The work in the detention center is conducted under the leadership of a station commander and in close collaboration with the local police area's other activities. As a detention guard, you will handle and meet individuals who have been deprived of their liberty for various reasons. Deprivation of liberty can occur for the purpose of investigating crimes, but it can also involve short-term detentions due to intoxication or disturbances of public order. The pace of work varies over time and depends on how many people are deprived of their liberty.

Your main job responsibilities:

  • Assist the intervention operations during reception and searches
  • Supervision and monitoring of detainees
  • Administrative tasks, such as documentation of detentions and record checks
  • DNA sampling, fingerprinting, and photographing the detainee (dactyloscopy)
  • Support other operations with simpler administrative tasks, such as serving documents and reception work

There may be work at other police stations than the one you are employed at.

You will undergo an introduction and training to become authorized to work as a detention guard.

QUALIFICATIONS

This is an opportunity for you who have:

  • Completed high school education with full grades or equivalent education that the employer assesses as equivalent
  • Several years of experience working with people in areas that the employer deems relevant for the position
  • Good ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish and English
  • Driver's license B

We consider it an advantage if you also have:

  • Previous experience working with individuals in vulnerable situations, for example from the Police Authority, Correctional Services, social services, healthcare, or psychiatry.
  • Experience working as a detention guard or other work that the employer assesses as equivalent
  • Good computer skills with experience working in various data systems

Personal qualities

In the role of a detention guard, it is important to be able to work independently as well as in close collaboration with others. You will meet people who are struggling both mentally and physically, which requires you to be professional in your approach, regardless of the reason for the deprivation of liberty. Since the work can be perceived as challenging, you need to have good communication skills and high personal maturity. Your ability to remain calm and stable in pressured situations can be crucial for how a situation develops.

We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
