Ájtte, the Swedish Mountain and Sámi Museum, is a specialized museum for the nature and culture of the mountain region and the main museum in Sweden for Sámi culture. Ájtte is located in Jokkmokk, an important gateway to the World Heritage site Laponia. The museum works with an ecological perspective, aiming to create comprehensive images of humans and their environment. The museum has modern facilities with good technical equipment.

Job Responsibilities:

Together with the gardener, you will be responsible for the daily operations of Ájtte Mountain Garden and take good care of visitors, living plants, and plant environments.

Maintaining and developing the garden's plant environments, keeping species signage up to date, answering questions, and guiding visitor groups from different countries are common recurring tasks. Simple maintenance and daily care of buildings, facilities, and the garden's gravel paths and bridges are also ongoing. Additionally, you will perform observations within the framework of the Swedish Phenology Network - Nature's Calendar. Supervisory and mentoring duties may occur.

Qualifications:

We are looking for someone with great commitment and a passionate interest in ecology and mountain botany. You need to have documented gardening or botanical education, or alternatively, equivalent extensive qualified experience in gardening in public visitor gardens.

You must be stress-resistant, able to work independently, but of course also enjoy working together with other colleagues at the workplace. It is valuable if you have experience working in a goal-oriented organization and can work based on set goals in the organization. You should be interested in and have a knack for daily leadership.

You should be an outgoing person and interested in spreading information about wild plants. Since many visitors come from other countries, it is a requirement that you master English in addition to Swedish. Knowledge of additional languages is a plus. Knowledge of Sámi language and culture is an advantage. A fixed schedule with weekend work is included.
