Description
The County Administrative Board of Dalarna is looking for a manager for the Wildlife Unit, which is one of four units in the Department of Nature Conservation.
The unit consists of 12 employees including the manager, of which about half work as nature monitors in the field and half as administrative officers. The unit is responsible for administering the management of elk and red deer populations, leading the regional management of large predators including inventory, in some cases granting permits for protective hunting, deciding on grants for damage prevention measures, compensating for damage caused by wildlife and large birds, and informing about wildlife and hunting legislation. The Wildlife Unit also has close cooperation with the county's Wildlife Management Delegation, which makes decisions on overarching and strategic issues for the county's wildlife management.
Responsibilities
As the unit manager, you are responsible for planning and leading the work, prioritizing and ensuring the quality of the unit's processes, and you are the manager of the unit's employees. You are responsible for budget and resource allocation, both financially and personally, and have a responsibility for the work environment. Furthermore, you are responsible for monitoring and evaluating the operations and ensuring that the unit works in accordance with the state value base and that the County Administrative Board's governing documents are followed.
As the manager of the Wildlife Unit, you will find yourself in public debates, as well as often in the media, representing the authority's role and mission. Your immediate supervisor is the department head Anna Carlsson.
Qualifications
Requirements
- Academic degree from a university or other education that the employer deems relevant for the position.
- Experience as a manager and/or leader with personnel responsibility.
- Experience working strategically and process-oriented with operational planning, monitoring, and development as well as with employees' work environment.
- Good communicator with a positive attitude and good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
- Driver's license B.
- Swedish citizenship, as the position is security classified.
Meritorious
- Education in wildlife/ecology/population ecology.
- Experience as a manager and/or leader with personnel responsibility within a government agency.
- Experience in authority exercise, e.g., processing and/or wildlife management.
- Good knowledge of the regulations governing hunting and wildlife management.
- Experience working with issues related to large predators.
- Experience collaborating with various interest groups.
- Experience leading remotely.

Conditions
Interviews are tentatively scheduled to begin during week 10, 2026. The County Administrative Board applies a probationary employment.
