Unit Manager for the Environmental Department

Do you want to lead engaged specialists and contribute to sustainable community development? We are now looking for a unit manager for our environmental department. A role for you who wants to combine leadership, development work, and legally secure public authority exercise.

Enköping Municipality is the workplace for you who want to help create a long-term good society. At the Environmental and Community Planning Administration, you will work with the municipality's physical planning and development while making a difference through public authority exercise and advice in areas such as environment, construction, food, infection control, and much more. With us, strategic thinking is combined with operational work – all to create a safe and sustainable environment for today’s and tomorrow’s residents of Enköping.

We believe that the solutions to our challenges lie in a development driven by the creativity, inner motivation, and willingness of competent leaders and employees to contribute to continuous improvements. Good leaders are seen as the single most important factor in attracting new employees and retaining existing ones.

The Environmental Department consists of 33 employees divided into five groups and a management team. Our groups work in small sewage systems, health protection, environmental protection, and agriculture, administration, food, as well as alcohol and tobacco. The management team consists of two unit managers and a department manager under normal staffing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a unit manager, you have overall responsibility for operations, personnel, work environment, and finances within your groups, ensuring that operations are conducted with high quality and legally secure public authority exercise.

You will be responsible for the environmental protection and agriculture group, which consists of nine employees and works with a wide range of cases from contaminated land and waste transport to applications for geothermal heat pumps. In addition, you will also be the manager of another group related to the Environmental Code: small sewage systems (five employees) or health protection (three employees).

As a manager, you are present in everyday life. A large part of your work involves individual check-ins, dialogue, and participation in group meetings. You are responsible for planning, prioritizing, and following up on operations, and you actively work with financial follow-up to anticipate and manage challenges. Therefore, you are expected to have good technical skills and feel comfortable with administrative tasks.

Your assignment also includes driving development work within supervision and quality issues. If necessary, you participate in the environmental and building committee's meetings when your groups have matters to be addressed.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Relevant academic education and good knowledge of the environmental field
  • Good understanding of legal reasoning and sound judgment
  • Experience in public authority exercise under the Environmental Code and the Administrative Procedure Act
  • Very good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish
  • Ability to make decisions with a holistic perspective
  • Good collaboration skills and a structured working method

Meritorious:

  • Experience in the municipal political process
  • Experience in budget and financial responsibility

As a leader, you are secure, trustworthy, and show genuine concern for your employees. You motivate and inspire through present leadership and have the ability to see the whole picture, both the everyday life of employees and the needs of those we supervise.

You are attentive, communicative, and can convey calm and security. At the same time, you have the ability to engage, encourage, and drive the operations forward. You are solution-oriented and have the ability to lead in change, as new demands and conditions are a natural part of our everyday life.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
