Kriminalvården is hiring correctional officers for the Transport Department

Kriminalvården is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transport.

The Transport Department (TA) is tasked with transporting and supervising incarcerated individuals. These are Kriminalvården's clients who are moved between remand facilities and prisons, to court hearings, and hospitals, among other places. TA also transports incarcerated individuals for agencies such as the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Migration Agency, and psychiatry. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer within the Transport Department, you will be part of a team consisting of two to four people, each responsible for different roles in the execution of client transports. You will encounter a wide variety of clients of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences. You will search, restrain, and supervise the client during transport.

The tasks of the Transport Department are varied, meaning your working hours may change from day to day. Evening, night, and weekend work may be included. The scheduled hours are frame hours, usually 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Nationally, it is more common to finish before the frame hours are over, and in most cases, you will have a consistent start time. Frame hours mean that the employer can change the start and end times. Changes will be communicated before the previous shift ends. For example, a shift can be between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM (12 hours) or 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (7 hours). Working hours are reviewed every three months. If you have worked more than expected, you will receive overtime compensation. If you have worked less, you will still receive your normal salary.

You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction for three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in Kriminalvården's basic training, which is mandatory and lasts for 8 weeks. You will also be trained in carrying OC spray. You will receive a salary throughout the training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted to evaluate your suitability for permanent employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

The role places high demands on personal suitability. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. It is important that you share Kriminalvården's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change. You need to have good physical fitness to handle a sedentary job and to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work do not count as employment.
• A completed high school education or other education combined with work experience that Kriminalvården deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.
• Good computer skills.
• A B driver's license and good driving experience.

It is advantageous if you have:

• Work experience in corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social services, service professions.
• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
• Relevant language skills.

OTHER

The employment includes mandatory correctional training. This may take place in another location. Kriminalvården's operations run 24/7, which means you will work days and evenings.
