About us

Our two departments provide advanced cardiac care in close collaboration with each other and have the ultimate responsibility for emergency care concerning acute ongoing heart attacks.

The department closely collaborates with the emergency intake and ambulance services. The ambulance sends EKGs to the department, which are interpreted by two nurses. A decision is then made regarding the care the patient will receive, such as direct admission and percutaneous coronary intervention or another care facility. In the department, we also care for patients with various types of arrhythmias and patients being evaluated for advanced heart failure, heart pumps, and preparing for heart transplants. We also have a large catchment area with both county and regional assignments.

What do we offer?

Together, we can offer you broad knowledge in Cardiology so that you, as a nurse, can feel professional pride and develop your skills over time, which is important to us.

In the department, doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants work closely together with frequent check-ins where team spirit is prioritized. We also work closely with other professional categories such as physiotherapists, social workers, occupational therapists, and dietitians. We have four instructors in the department who continuously educate nurses through internal lectures and courses, both theoretically and practically. We also have external speakers several times a week. This makes you more confident and professional in your nursing role.

The department has its own CPR instructors who conduct continuous internal training where we practice together. Everything from half days to full days throughout the year.

We also have a cardiac arrest team that we are very proud of, where the nurse, together with a cardiologist, responds to cardiac arrest alarms throughout the hospital. Both the doctor and the nurse wear a pager that alerts them in case of cardiac arrest. This is to ensure that the patient receives professional care as early as possible in the care chain. Participation is voluntary, but it is highly appreciated by both staff and other departments.

We have a competence ladder from general cardiology to advanced highly specialized care. There is also a specialist education in cardiac care that takes place part-time over two years.

About you

We are looking for a licensed nurse. You are passionate about emergency care and possess important qualities such as good collaboration skills, attention to detail, social competence, and a flexible working style. We value experience. Working in the cardiac intensive care unit means you must enjoy emergency care. The work will vary from high workload to a calmer pace. That is the charm of working here.

Meet some of our employees - Sahlgrenska University Hospital

If you are a newly graduated nurse, you will be part of the Clinical Foundation Year, which is our introduction program. The clinical foundation year is mandatory and lasts during the first year of your employment with us. It includes lectures, nursing supervision, and practical training of your profession at the Simulation Center. Additionally, it also includes service in at least two different departments to broaden your competence.

In the event of recruitment of nurses with foreign licenses/specialist certificates, the current position will be preceded by a process to meet the requirements for Swedish licenses/specialist certificates.
