About the Position

Your Responsibilities

As a locking master, you will have both a responsible and fun role where you ensure that both safety and service are at the highest level. You will be stationed at one of our lines of locks or bridges and be responsible for operating these. In dialogue with your colleagues, you will ensure that boat traffic flows smoothly and that the canal has the correct water level. You will be an ambassador for the Göta Canal and make a significant impact on each guest's experience. Seasonal Employment

The position is a seasonal employment during the period from June 16 to August 12. The employment period lasts between 6 and 9 weeks, and you need to be available for work throughout the entire period. There is also the possibility to apply for extended employment during the Göta Canal's off-season, from August 13 to September 27, depending on preferences and needs. If you are interested in working during the off-season, please mention this in your application. To be eligible for the position, you must be at least 18 years old before the employment starts.

Who Are You?

We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, who is communicative and enjoys meeting new people. You speak Swedish and English fluently, and preferably have knowledge of German – that is an advantage! It is a requirement that you are a good swimmer, and if you have experience or interest in boating, that is a big plus. If you have worked in service before and have a B driver's license as well as access to your own car, that is also meritorious for easily commuting to and from work.

Recruitment Process – Step by Step

We are glad that you are interested in becoming a part of our team! Here are the different steps in the recruitment process:

1. Service Test

   When you submit your application, you will gain access to a service test via your profile on StudentConsulting. You can find the test under the TESTS tab on their website. By completing the test, you will have the opportunity to proceed in the recruitment process and show us your skills.

2. Phone Interview

   After you have completed the service test, we will contact you for a phone interview. This is a great opportunity for us to get to know you better and for you to ask questions about the position and the work at Göta Canal.

3. Reference Check

   If you proceed to the next step, we will send out a digital reference check. You will need to provide 2 references from previous work, at least one of whom must be a former supervisor. We recommend that you prepare your references in advance for our contact. We will also ask for consent for a background check.

4. Digital Interview

   In February and March 2026, we will hold digital interviews. Both SC and Göta Canal will participate in the interviews. This gives us the opportunity to meet you more in-depth and discuss your background and motivation for the position. You will also receive more information about the role and work environment.

5. Job Offer

   During February and March, we will offer employment to the candidates we believe will be the best fit for the position. This is the final part of the selection process, and we look forward to welcoming you aboard for the 2026 season!

6. Training

   On June 14, there will be a mandatory training day where we prepare you for your role and provide you with all the necessary information to do a fantastic job. During the training, you will also have the opportunity to meet your future colleagues and feel well-prepared for the summer season.
