The Swedish Sportfishing and Fisheries Conservation Association, Sportfiskarna, is a non-profit membership organization currently organizing about 75,000 members and 400 associations. Since 1919, we have worked to ensure that there is healthy fish in healthy waters - for everyone. We do this by operating within four overarching areas; fisheries conservation, promotion, management, and advocacy. With us, you will become part of a group of nature and outdoor enthusiasts in a forward-looking organization.

The majority of practical fisheries conservation work is carried out from our 11 local offices across the country. There are 70 nature and fishing-interested colleagues with broad expertise. Since most of the work is project-based, there are good opportunities to influence the direction of the activities yourself. Depending on the type of project initiated, it is possible to shape your own position and work situation over time to create the greatest possible benefit for our members.

Examples of work areas within fisheries conservation include river restoration, addressing migration obstacles, mapping, and various forms of environmental monitoring. The association also submits bids for various assignments where we see a benefit for the aquatic environment and our members. From the start, you will be involved in ongoing fisheries conservation projects alongside experienced colleagues, and over time you will also have the opportunity to be responsible for your own projects – from idea to implementation and follow-up.

The current position is based at the office in Karlstad, and our main working area includes Värmland, Örebro, Dalarna, and parts of Västra Götaland. Periodically, the position involves a considerable amount of fieldwork and travel. We offer an exciting and developing role in an organization on the rise. A flexible work situation and the opportunity to work on something developing that contributes to a better society and environment.

Your profile

We believe you have an academic background in fields such as biology, ecology, or limnology, or alternatively a more practical background in nature conservation. You enjoy working independently towards set goals but also like to collaborate with colleagues as well as external parties. Important partners include authorities, landowners, contractors, and other organizations. If you already have an existing network, that is a plus.

You are structured, flexible, and capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously. As a project manager, you are expected to actively seek funding to launch new projects over time, in addition to the practical work. It is therefore important to be able to express yourself well in both speech and writing, as well as to have good organization for reporting back to funders. You enjoy working both in the office and in the field - the computer is as essential a tool as the electrofishing rod!

The work may periodically involve a high pace to keep up with all efforts during the field season. We value your ability to plan and prioritize based on the needs of the organization – while we as an employer strive for a sustainable work situation.

We would like you to have education and experience in GIS, habitat mapping, electrofishing, and other environmental monitoring. These are also areas where we offer internal competence development. Experience in project management and work within or with authorities is also meritorious.

If you have other experiences or knowledge that you believe may be significant and contribute to effective fisheries conservation work, we encourage you to highlight them in your application.

As a staff member within an association, you are also expected to support the voluntary activities in affiliated clubs and associations and be able to represent Sportfiskarna in various regional contexts. Therefore, we appreciate experience in voluntary engagement and association life in general. Knowledge of sportfishing is also important as it provides a greater understanding of our members' needs.

We place great emphasis on personal qualities and also encourage you who do not meet all the requirements to apply – perhaps you are the right person for the role.

The position requires a B driver's license.
