The Role of Youth Librarian with Us

As a youth librarian, you create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment for young people.

You help make the library a place where young people feel welcome and have the opportunity to develop.

You meet young people at Kulturhuset Fyren, at the Digital Learning Center, on Discord, and in other contexts where they are present. Together with colleagues, you work on promoting reading, digital learning, gaming culture, and digital competence.

In this role, you conduct activities where young people can meet around games, media literacy, and culture. You collaborate with colleagues within the library services and with external partners, including the municipality's program Ung i Kungsbacka. The work is outward-facing and also involves representation and activities outside the library premises.

Of course, you have a positive attitude towards digitalization/AI tools and proactively scan the environment in this area related to your assignment.

Your Profile

We are looking for someone who wants to create a safe and inspiring environment for young people and who has an interest in their reading and cultural habits. You combine a professional approach with a sense of service and enjoy switching between meeting people and administrative tasks that require precision and structure. You work independently, collaborate well, and communicate clearly and pedagogically.

You express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing, as this is required in daily work.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has a degree in library and information science or another education that the employer deems equivalent.
• Through education or experience has good knowledge of youth gaming culture.
• Through education or experience has very good knowledge of media and information literacy (MIL).

It is meritorious:

• If you have a good understanding of how the Convention on the Rights of the Child can be practiced based on young people's participation in society through education or experience.
• If you have a B driver's license.

The libraries in Kungsbacka comprise five local libraries, a mobile unit, and the library in Kulturhuset Fyren. We are about 40 employees and work as a whole with a focus on the best for the municipality's residents.

Our Offer and Other Information

We offer a fixed-term full-time position starting March 16 or by agreement. The assignment lasts until February 5, 2027.

Work may occur in the evenings and weekends.
