There is something special about Avesta!
Here you will find not only Dala horses and rushing rapids. There is also will and courage, initiative and faith in the future. It is the strength of the people that makes Avesta unique. Together we are building the future of Avesta – do you want to be part of it?
The Västmanland-Dalarna Environmental and Building Administration is a merger of the environmental and building administrations of Avesta, Fagersta, and Norberg. The joint administration, with Avesta as the host municipality, is governed by a joint political committee with representation from all three municipalities. With the units Planning & Building, Mapping & Measurement, Environment, and Administration, the administration operates in a region with just over 42,000 inhabitants.
Introduction
We are looking for someone interested in development in a GIS environment. With us, you will contribute your technical expertise to support our three municipalities with varying mapping solutions and GIS analyses. You will be involved in the development of web maps and 3D visualizations, so that modern technology can reach the municipalities' caseworkers, officials, and citizens.
Job Description
You will work on the maintenance and development of the Mapping and Measurement unit's Open Source software in the unit's Mapping/GIS group. Our web mapping platform is Origo Map, and the equivalent for 3D work is Cesium.
In this work, it is very helpful to have knowledge of programming in JavaScript, familiarity with schema structures in JSON, storage in PostgreSQL with PostGIS, and publishing geodata via GeoServer.
Since we are an administration that invests in Open Source, collaboration in various networks is an important part of the work to keep up with developments.
The work also includes being an internal support for the municipalities' employees together with the other GIS engineers and solving mapping and GIS-related problems for our users. In addition, the position will involve tasks such as map production, working with elevation data, mapping in ESPA, and participating in the unit's other development work.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has worked with development and programming in a GIS environment. You are familiar with programming in JavaScript and perhaps another language such as Python.
You have a university degree in the GIS field or equivalent education that the employer considers equivalent. If you have experience working with software such as FME, ESPA, QGIS, and CAD, we see it as an advantage. It is beneficial if you have experience from implementation work, being able to see and understand the relationship between technology and operations.
We place great importance on personal qualities such as good collaboration skills and the ability to come up with new ideas and approaches. Working in a structured manner is important to you, and you find it easy to organize your tasks. You can easily adapt and adjust to changing conditions. The work is service-oriented and consists largely of collaboration with colleagues and contacts with private individuals, companies, and authorities. Therefore, it is important that you have good knowledge of Swedish and can express yourself well in speech and writing. A driving license with at least category B is a requirement. You have an interest in the technological development within the industry.
