Sandviken, Hofors, and Ockelbo municipalities collaborate in a joint community planning board; the Western Gästrikland Community Planning Board (VGS). Sandviken is the host municipality, meaning it is the seat of the board and administration. The administration is tasked with handling authority matters within land surveying, planning, building, environment, and health.

JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a building inspector, and the position will also involve a team leader role for the building permit and housing adaptation team for the right person. This means you will combine the role of building inspector with a leadership assignment where you can contribute to the development and coordination of the team.
In the role of building inspector, you will work with:
- Daily contact with municipal residents, contractors, consultants, and authorities.
- Ensuring a legally secure working method to provide citizens with high service and a professional response.
- Processing building permits, notifications, preliminary decisions, and supervision according to the Planning and Building Act.
- Handling shoreline protection cases according to the Environmental Code.
- Technical reviews, consultations, and site visits.
- As well as development and digitalization issues within the responsibilities of the position and administration.
The team leader assignment involves:
In this role, you will be responsible for leading the daily work in a team of 12 employees. You will distribute cases and make priorities when necessary, while coaching employees and holding regular check-ins. You will convene and lead team meetings and ensure that the team's work is followed up to ensure everything functions as it should.
It is also important to ensure the team's presence in various forums and projects and to act as a contact person for the team both internally and externally, including media contacts. You will hold presentations and lectures, as well as ensure and update routines and processes in dialogue with senior building permit administrators and the manager.
Furthermore, it includes supporting the introduction of new employees and interns and having an overview of the team's competencies and suggesting development measures.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who is interested in community building in a broad sense, as our field of work spans many varied tasks. You communicate clearly, are service-oriented, and adapt your behavior to create customer satisfaction. You handle complex situations independently, effectively, and confidently. You consider the bigger picture and see the best for the entire organization in your actions and decisions. We also see that you take responsibility, plan, and drive your cases forward. You have good collaboration skills and contribute to an open climate where the team achieves its goals together. You show flexibility by adapting to changes and new conditions smoothly. Additionally, you take responsibility for your tasks and act proactively to ensure quality and delivery. Personal suitability is highly valued.
You also have:
- Education as a building permit administrator/building inspector, engineer, or other equivalent education.
- Knowledge of the Planning and Building Act, current regulations, and the Environmental Code.
- Experience working with digital tools and an interest in digitalization and business development.
Meritorious:
- Experience with municipal decision-making processes and authority exercise.
- Experience leading employees and creating engagement.
- Experience with the business system NOVA.
A valid driver's license (B) is required.
