Laboratory Engineer at Henriksdal Wastewater Treatment Plant

Are you a laboratory engineer looking to contribute to a safer and more sustainable society through precise analyses and reliable results? With us, you will use your laboratory skills to ensure the quality of a service that affects hundreds of thousands of people every day.

We are an important community builder delivering efficient and sustainable water and waste services – for today’s and future residents of Stockholm. Every day, all year round, we provide 1.6 million Stockholmers with clean and good tap water, treat wastewater, and ensure that waste is properly managed. Together with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders, we work to make Stockholm the world’s most sustainable city.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We are now looking for a laboratory engineer for the Wastewater Laboratory Group at Henriksdal Wastewater Treatment Plant, focusing on instrumentation, sampling, and laboratory analyses for the treatment process. The department is responsible for treating wastewater for 1.3 million people in Greater Stockholm and adjacent municipalities. In connection with our major renovation project for Stockholm's future wastewater treatment, we need to strengthen our operations lab, as the need for well-functioning online instruments, sampling, and analysis activities increases as new treatment steps are optimized and put into operation.

The position is a permanent employment with a six-month probationary period, located at Henriksdal wastewater treatment plant. Working hours are scheduled on weekdays from 07:30 to 16:00 with the possibility of flexible hours.

Main Responsibilities and Areas of Responsibility

  • Ensure that instruments for process control and discharge requirements are calibrated and maintained correctly to deliver quality measurements (water, sludge, gas).
  • Be responsible for daily routine work including sampling, sample administration, validation, and analyses (physical and chemical parameters).
  • Report to the lab data system, an important link to operations regarding instrumentation, sampling, and operational analyses.
  • Write and be responsible for sampling, maintenance, and calibration procedures.
  • Be responsible for and perform maintenance, control, and calibration of instruments.
  • Conduct technical investigations and write reports, e.g., for the evaluation of online instruments and analysis data.
  • Follow up on quality data and initiate improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS

As a person, we believe you are meticulous, analytical, and quality-conscious with a humble attitude and a practical approach. You are not afraid to work in environments where you might get dirty. You work in a structured manner, act quickly in case of deviations, and follow routines to ensure safe and stable operations. Your ability to collaborate, clear communication, and ability to build relationships contribute to an improved and efficient laboratory operation together with your colleagues. In this recruitment, we also place great importance on personal qualities.

We would like you to have:

  • A university degree of 120-240 credits in chemistry, chemical engineering, or equivalent knowledge.
  • At least three years of experience working in a laboratory.
  • Good knowledge of statistics and Excel.
  • Driver's license B.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

Knowledge of analytical methods and instrumentation technology is an advantage. It is also beneficial if you have experience with laboratory information systems (LIMS) and quality work, such as measurement uncertainty calculations and work with standard and calibration curves.

This job involves lifting, and as much as possible, we use aids for this. In the mountainous environment, we work with protective clothing, safety shoes, gloves, helmets with visors/safety glasses, and masks when necessary. The laboratory environment requires lab coats and gloves, and safety glasses when needed.
