Bergianska Garden is beautifully located on a peninsula in Brunnsviken within the Royal National City Park.
The garden is operated by Stockholm University, and we are a group of 19 permanent employees, most of whom are gardeners. During the summer months, about 8 seasonal garden workers are added.
The purpose of the operation is to spread knowledge about biodiversity, botany, and horticulture, as well as to provide materials and other resources for research and education. The garden features approximately 6,000 plant species from different continents in outdoor facilities and greenhouses. We are visited by around 150,000 people and 600 school classes annually. We are looking for an employee for a 50% temporary position as a gardener in Edvard Anderson's greenhouse at Bergianska Garden.
Responsibilities
- Care, propagation, and pruning of a diverse plant material in the greenhouse.
- Planning and evaluation of the cultivation technical operations as well as some administration of purchases and operations.
- Supervision of weekend and seasonal staff.
- Weekend work may occur, as well as participation in the garden's public activities such as tours and events.
The work is physically demanding.
Qualifications
We want you to have post-secondary horticultural education with a cultivation focus, e.g., horticultural engineer, or equivalent competence that we assess as comparable, as well as practical experience in greenhouse work. Knowledge of biological plant protection and work in a botanical garden is advantageous.
Important qualities for working in a botanical greenhouse include a genuine interest in plants, aesthetic sense, and technical skills. A sense of responsibility and a good ability to work independently as well as in a team are required, and we place great emphasis on personal suitability. We also prefer candidates with experience in leadership and good computer skills.
About the Employment
The position is part-time at 50% and is temporary until 2026-11-27. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date by agreement.
