Environmental Analyst at SLU, Department of Aquatic Resources
SLU, Department of Aquatic Resources, Coastal Laboratory, is seeking a biologist or a person with equivalent background and qualifications for a position as an environmental analyst at the office in Bua, Varberg Municipality.

About the Job
We are looking for a committed and knowledgeable biologist for the position of environmental analyst at SLU Aqua, Coastal Laboratory. You will contribute to our work in providing advice to management and developing knowledge about the sustainable use of ecosystems in coastal and marine areas. You will work with field sampling and analyses within the framework of the EU's data collection regulation as well as national and regional environmental monitoring of fish in coastal waters.
You will primarily work with biological and radiological environmental monitoring at the Ringhals nuclear power plant, the EU's data collection regulation, and data collection within national and regional environmental monitoring. Additionally, you may work on several different environmental analysis projects at the department.
Your tasks will include conducting fish sampling along the coast (mainly the west coast but also in other parts of Sweden as needed) and other field assignments, as well as collecting various types of data through sampling programs aboard commercial fishing boats as well as on research vessels of various sizes. This also involves biological sampling of fish and analysis of biological samples, reporting results, and other tasks within the framework of SLU Aqua's operations. The tasks will involve occasional fieldwork, which entails flexible working hours, travel, and may also involve some weekend work. The tasks may change over time based on the needs of the operations.
Your Background
You have a strong interest in the marine environment, fish, fishing, and marine mammals. As a person, you are responsible and good at communicating. You enjoy working in a team but are also comfortable working independently when required. You need to be meticulous, quick to learn new things, accustomed to working systematically, and have a flexible approach. Personal qualities such as teamwork, attention to detail, and subject matter expertise are highly valued in the hiring process and should be exemplified in your application.
You should have:
- a solid interest in marine biology, fish, fishing, and the ecosystems of the North Sea
- good seamanship
- good experience in fieldwork
- experience in fish sampling, preferably with survey nets and/or traps
- a valid driver's license (manual)
- good oral and written skills in Swedish
- good oral and written skills in English
It is advantageous if you have:
- good knowledge of fish species in the west coast
- experience in operating center console boats
- experience in biological sampling of fish
- experience working with databases
- experience in project management
- experience from commercial fishing or work on research vessels
- experience in quantitative analysis of images and/or video material
- obtained the certificate for vessel command class VIII
- driver's license with B96 or BE category
- current safety training to work on fishing boats
- current training in animal ethics
- experience in biological statistics and statistical software (R, SPSS, etc.)
- experience in writing scientific texts or reports
Eligibility
Bachelor's degree in biology or a related subject.

The Department of Aquatic Resources conducts environmental analysis, advice, research, and education in aquatic ecology with a focus on fish and shellfish. The department is SLU's largest and has employees at four main locations: Lysekil, Öregrund, Uppsala (Ultuna), and Stockholm (Drottningholm), as well as two field stations.
