BT Program for Doctors in Region Stockholm
Region Stockholm offers a one-year independent BT program, Basic Training, in collaboration with Region Stockholm's healthcare services in both the private sector and publicly owned healthcare.
We strive to provide a program that offers a good introduction to Swedish healthcare and a solid foundation for future specialization training.
About the Position
The position is a fixed-term employment as a BT doctor for 12 months which cannot be shortened. The employment is at the BT unit within SLSO and is a full-time position comprising 40 hours per week. On-call duties are included to varying degrees depending on placement. Individual salary setting applies. The BT program begins with a mandatory joint introduction starting on April 27, 2026.
The BT program is based on the goal description and includes clinical training under supervision in general medicine (4 months), emergency care (4 months), geriatrics (2 months), and psychiatry (2 months). The order of placements and the place of service may vary and cannot be chosen.
The focus is on independent clinical patient work under supervision, combined with education in the form of seminars and courses. At the start, you will be assigned a primary supervisor who will follow up and support you throughout the BT program. Each clinical placement includes elements of competence assessment and feedback.
We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who has a Swedish medical license approved by the National Board of Health and Welfare and has not completed Swedish AT. Your language skills in Swedish correspond to level C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and you have good medical knowledge. You are an EU citizen, permanently residing in Sweden, or have a residence permit that allows you to apply for a work permit as a BT doctor in Sweden. Relevant work experience as a licensed doctor in healthcare in Sweden is an advantage.

Relevant work experience in healthcare in Sweden as a doctor/ licensed physician is an advantage.
To Be Considered for Your Application, the Following Information Must Be Included:
- Medical degree certificate (issued/translated into English or Swedish)
- To apply for the BT program, you must have a Swedish license included in your application by the last day before the advertisement closes.
- Language certificate corresponding to C1 level according to CEFR or Swedish high school diploma
- CV with clearly indicated dates of when you started and ended each employment (year, month)
- Certificate of service or employment contract (for all positions as a doctor in Sweden that you have listed in your CV)
- Current mobile number and home address/residential address
- Personal letter in Swedish explaining why you are applying for the BT program
- Recommendation letters from your two most recent workplaces, one from your supervisor and one from a colleague in your profession. This applies regardless of whether the employment was not as a doctor (for example, as a researcher or another role) and even if the workplace is not located in Sweden.
- Current references from your two most recent workplaces, one supervisor and one professional colleague (a total of two references). At a workplace, supervisor and one professional colleague
- Any necessary work/residence permits

For Patient-Centered Work within Stockholm County's Healthcare Area:
- Background checks will be applied before the employment decision according to SLSO's overarching guidelines for background checks during employment.
- Employees who will have patient contact must undergo a pre-employment health examination, according to applicable directives, which is done through occupational health services before employment.
- In addition to a Swedish professional license, good knowledge of the Swedish language corresponding to level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) is required. The same requirements apply to non-licensed personnel with patient contact.
