New projects drive the need

When we meet the managers within mechanical design, the picture of an organization in motion emerges, one that is growing both technically and in terms of competence.

– “We see a significant increase in demand, and together with new marine initiatives, we need to expand,” says Stefan Regestad, section manager within design. He points out that several larger projects are currently facing new construction and further development.

– “It’s an exciting mix. Everything from detailed design and changes in existing systems to completely new marine solutions.”

Full breadth: from ammunition to advanced marine systems

BAE Systems Bofors works with several technology domains in parallel. All product areas are being scaled up, and in the long term, more designers will be needed than today. In the projects, work often occurs in smaller groups with two to three designers and one design responsible, while larger systems involve entirely different resources.

– “This allows you to quickly take on responsibility but also receive support. Teamwork and project form are absolutely central here,” says Stefan Regestad.

Also, Björn Johansson, head of another part of mechanical design, testifies to the same need for more experienced designers.

– “Now we are primarily looking for individuals with a few years of experience. Those who can step in, ask the right questions, and get started relatively quickly,” he says.

The technology areas include welding, hydraulics, mechanical subsystems, and composite constructions. For those who wish to specialize, there are great opportunities to deepen within a specific area.

Significant expansion – but long-term focus

BAE Systems Bofors does not describe the initiative as a short-term peak, but as part of a longer development within the group. In recent years, the pace of investment has increased, and new system areas are being established.

– “There is a pride in contributing technology that is of high quality and makes a difference,” concludes Björn Johansson.

Examples of job responsibilities:

• Work with mechanical design in both existing and entirely new systems
• Make drawing changes, improvements, and technical updates
• Develop models, drawings, and documentation in CAD
• Contribute to projects within ammunition, land systems, marine systems
• Collaborate closely with production, testing, systems engineers, and manufacturing
• Participate in project meetings, weekly pulses, and technical reviews
• Work in smaller, self-directed teams with significant influence on technical decisions
• Follow solutions from idea to finished product – including verification and testing

Are you the one we are looking for?

To succeed in the role, you have:

• A few years of experience in mechanical design or equivalent technical background
• Good understanding of mechanical structures, strength, and manufacturing methods
• Ability to take initiative, ask questions, and get started quickly in new projects
• Competence in CAD (e.g., NX, Solid Edge, or similar)
• Good knowledge of both Swedish and English
