Library Assistant at Umeå City Library, Väven Lär Unit

Umeå's public libraries are part of the Culture in Umeå municipality and consist of the city library, ten local libraries, and a library bus.

Umeå City Library is located on three floors in Väven, a building created for cross-border collaborations. The library includes the units Väven Lär and Väven Läs that work closely together. The library is part of the Umeå region's library collaboration with a shared media collection, loan system, and website.

Our mission is to be cultural meeting places that are accessible to everyone both physically and digitally. The operation should promote the development of a democratic society and, by collaborating with others, reach new target groups. The libraries should work to promote reading and facilitate digital participation. We strive to have an organization characterized by diversity.

We are looking for a librarian for Umeå City Library, Väven Lär unit.

Your Responsibilities

The position focuses on digital participation, digital services, web, and digital communication.

You will work closely with web editors, communicators, and IT educators. Together, you will ensure that public libraries reach all residents of the municipality. The role includes working with the public libraries' e-services. You will have a coordinating role regarding the city library's work with Digital Help.

You will serve in the library's public areas with information services, visitor guidance, qualified reference work based on visitors' needs, book displays, and other related tasks. Evening and weekend work is included.

Your tasks will also include participating in the development of the operation together with the manager, colleagues, and visitors, for example, by participating in current working groups and projects, and contributing to fulfilling the library's mission to promote literature, reading, knowledge dissemination, digital competence, and freedom of opinion.

About You

We are looking for someone with a degree in library and information science. You have experience in library work, preferably from a position with similar responsibilities. You have an interest and knowledge regarding communication and social media, and a strong commitment to all residents' right to information and participation in society. It is an advantage if you have worked with any web publishing system.

You have an inclusive approach and are attentive to the visitors' needs. You enjoy working outwardly, development-oriented, and pedagogically with a focus on high service levels for people of all ages. You are good at communicating in both spoken and written forms, with good knowledge of Swedish and English. We also welcome additional language skills, such as national minority languages. You have the ability to collaborate and can work independently and in a structured manner.
