Advisor in Rural Development

The County Administrative Board's approximately 300 employees work as the government's representative at the regional level. Our mission is to develop the county and ensure that national political goals are implemented in the region. We strive to be an authority free from discrimination and want to harness the qualities that diversity brings to our operations.

The Rural Development Unit is one of the County Administrative Board's seven units with about 40 employees.

The unit is responsible for project and investment support, animal and area-based support, advice and courses for agricultural businesses, supervision within agriculture, register checks on animals, land acquisition permits for agricultural and forestry properties, as well as monitoring basic payment services. The unit also manages the Interreg Sweden-Norway program, for which the County Administrative Board of Jämtland County is the managing authority. The unit has overall responsibility for rural development issues and is responsible for agricultural and rural focus in the cross-sectoral collaboration at the County Administrative Board. Experts in these areas work with us and are happy to share their knowledge.

We work with respect, professionalism, and openness for the residents of the county – together for a sustainable future!

Description

We are looking for someone who is passionate about rural development and wants to contribute to valuable development within the green sectors in Jämtland County.

You are preferably a biologist or natural scientist with knowledge of forestry and agriculture.

As an advisor and case officer with us, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in both agricultural and forestry issues. You will work both within your own unit and in collaboration with other units, farmers, and other stakeholders in the county. If you have a holistic view, are proactive, and enjoy collaborating and communicating with many people, you may be the right person for us!

Responsibilities

Your role is important for our work to develop Jämtland County. You provide support in agricultural and forestry issues with a clear rural development perspective. In this role, you have significant responsibility and work both strategically and operationally.

Examples of your tasks include:

  • Providing advice within the framework of the Targeted Agricultural Landscape and contributing to projects for skills development in grazing issues for farmers.
  • Surveying meadows and pastures and guiding on support for the restoration of meadows and pastures.
  • Developing the regional forestry program for collaboration on forestry issues in Jämtland County.
  • Creating projects and seeking funding related to forestry as a resource.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is engaged in agricultural and forestry issues with a focus on agricultural businesses and their conditions. You are proactive and can work independently with your own responsibility. At the same time, you are good at collaborating and building relationships with both colleagues and external partners. You communicate clearly and simply, both verbally and in writing in Swedish, and can convey complex information in an understandable way.

To succeed in this role, you need to see the whole picture and understand how different rural issues are interconnected. You have an understanding of the agricultural landscape with its fields and usage. You are structured and have the ability to find sustainable solutions to challenges that arise.

We place great importance on your personal qualities as we see them as crucial for achieving our common goals.

In addition, we are looking for someone who has:

  • At least three years of higher education in a natural science field, preferably in biology, forestry, ecology, or a similar area that we deem relevant.
  • A valid driver's license, as the position requires travel by car where public transport is not available.
  • Good knowledge of wild plants, meadows, and pastures, including natural pastures, and forestry.
  • Experience in advising, guiding, or working with business contacts.

Meritorious

  • Fieldwork, such as surveying wild plants and/or surveying and restoring pastures.
  • Experience in forest production or forestry issues from a forest owner's perspective.
  • Experience in government work.

We are looking for a person who can work full-time but are open to the position being part-time. If you feel that our description fits you, you will likely thrive and contribute positively to our work.

Conditions

We offer you a meaningful job with varied tasks. You will make a difference for our county and community. The County Administrative Board is a broad authority, which means you will constantly have the opportunity to develop and learn new things. This applies across several policy areas.

As an employer, we focus on good employment conditions, active work environment efforts, and health-promoting wellness activities. We value collaboration with our trade union partners and can offer remote work.

In the case of a permanent position at the County Administrative Board, you will be placed in a crisis position at the authority. Depending on the position, it may involve service in a crisis staff and security classification. We usually start with a probationary period for permanent positions.
