The Municipal Executive Office works with coordination and development of municipal operations at a strategic level. Here, important functions exist within HR, finance, digitalization, communication, sustainable community development, as well as growth and business.

The Department of Community Development and Sustainability is part of the Municipal Executive Office. Within the department, there is coordination for several municipal-wide issues such as climate and energy issues, environmental issues, water and sewage issues, climate adaptation, social sustainability, comprehensive planning, infrastructure, public transport, housing supply, rural development, gender equality, public health, and national minorities. The department also has several important coordination assignments primarily within One Sundsvall that holds together and Climate-Neutral Sundsvall.

We are looking for a head of the Department of Community Development and Sustainability.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The role of head of community development and sustainability is complex, with significant responsibility for the strategic community issues for Sundsvall Municipality in collaboration with politicians, citizens, and other partners, as well as employees with various assignments and competencies. The responsibility for the department's mission is to ensure that strategic assignments for the municipality as a whole are implemented. This means that as a manager, you have a good ability to translate strategic assignments into operational implementation that provides support and development to your employees in their tasks. You lead a team consisting of 15 employees in roles such as process leaders, coordinators, and strategists within the various areas responsible for coordinating and implementing these decisions. Work sometimes occurs in project form, requiring high flexibility and the ability to adapt to new conditions. You have a good structure by using a systematic and organized working method.

As the head of the Department of Community Development and Sustainability, you report directly to the municipal director, who is also your client. You are part of the management group of the administration.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with a university degree in urban planning, sustainability, or another relevant field that we assess as equivalent. If you have further education in leadership, we consider it an asset, as well as experience in sustainable development and/or sustainability reporting.

You have many years of relevant experience as a manager/leader and a good ability to translate the strategic assignment by leading and developing your employees in the right direction at the operational level to achieve the intended results. It is advantageous if you have experience leading complex development processes with multiple stakeholders. Also, if you have a good understanding of politically governed organizations. You can express yourself very well in spoken and written Swedish, and we expect you to have good computer skills. A B driver's license is a requirement.

You are an experienced leader who enjoys leading change, and with our mission in focus, you apply an inclusive, delegating, and developing leadership that reflects our guiding principles of courage, holistic view, and openness. Your ability to see connections in a larger context and analyze the effects of different choices is very good, but you also need to be able to flexibly translate that into practical action to achieve the intended results. You possess a good ability to communicate and create participation around the organization's goals by clearly ensuring governance.
