Kriminalvården is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and adding on, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.

Here we offer the opportunity to have an exciting and challenging summer substitute position at Salberga Prison. Kriminalvården arranges transportation to and from the workplace. It will be centrally located in Uppsala and will be subject to benefit taxation.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with the client. The tasks at the prison/detention center are varied: care, monitoring, searching, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work. Work at the detention center is often routine-driven and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the detention center, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer.

To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share Kriminalvården's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in human development.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Completed upper secondary education or other training combined with work experience that Kriminalvården deems relevant
• Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form
• Good computer skills

It is advantageous if you have:

• Work experience from corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care work
• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management
• Relevant language skills
• Driver's license (B)

OTHER

We place high demands on our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. A security check will precede the decision on employment. Certain positions are placed in a security class, and a security assessment with a background check will be conducted before a decision on employment is made. For positions with a higher security class, you need to be a Swedish citizen but may have a foreign background.
