JOB DESCRIPTION

Do you want to contribute to a safer society? As a correctional officer in a prison and remand center, you are the foundation of security work. You work in teams with other professionals to maintain a safe and secure environment and to motivate clients towards a life without crime.

Your daily tasks include locking and unlocking residential rooms, searching premises, and monitoring, as well as providing counseling and preparing for release, among other duties. The role of a correctional officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with a focus on risk assessment and security awareness. The work is varied, and there are many development opportunities for those seeking continued employment.

It is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change.

Staff will begin to be hired continuously starting in spring 2025.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for candidates who have:

• Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
• Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form
• Good computer skills

It is an advantage if you have:

• Work experience in corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and social care
• Knowledge in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management
• Relevant language skills
• Driver's license (B)

We have high demands on our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. A security check will precede the hiring decision. Some positions are classified, and a security assessment with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. For positions with a higher security classification, you must be a Swedish citizen, but you may have a foreign background.
