The rescue service has 45 employees. 7 are full-time employees and 38 people are employed in our emergency response organization part-time alongside their regular jobs. In Vaggeryd, there is a rescue chief, two preparedness coordinators, two fire inspectors, and two team leaders working full-time. The operational force consists of 20 part-time firefighters in Vaggeryd and 18 part-time firefighters in Skillingaryd, of which 5 people at each fire station are on standby around the clock. Each person is on standby every third week.
The rescue service of Vaggeryd Municipality is also part of Räddsam F. RäddSam F is a collaboration between 13 municipalities in Jönköping County and Ydre Municipality in Östergötland County, as well as SOS Alarm. Together, we assist in both operational rescue efforts and preventive work. Within RäddSam F, there is a large number of firefighters, team leaders, incident commanders, and regional incident commanders available year-round, around the clock. We are looking for new part-time firefighters for the rescue team in Vaggeryd and Skillingaryd with employment starting in spring 2025.
As a part-time firefighter, you contribute to creating safety in the community. You are alerted to various emergency situations such as traffic accidents, cardiac arrests, fires, drownings, chemical spills, floods, water damage, animal rescues, and other urgent situations where lives, property, and/or the environment may be at risk. Your tasks may include providing qualified first aid, extinguishing fires, performing water rescues, and much more that makes a difference. You will receive good training funded by the rescue service that prepares you for the job.
The rescue service has 3 workgroups at each fire station that are on standby every third week. In addition, there is a pool of firefighters to temporarily fill vacancies. We also offer the opportunity to work as a FIP firefighter (First Intervention Person) in Vaggeryd. The employment means you have a fixed schedule with standby duty around the clock every third week and have access to a smaller emergency vehicle during your standby week. You belong to the part-time force in Vaggeryd and are stationed in Vaggeryd. Being a FIP firefighter means you can go directly from your home or regular workplace to the accident site. This means that your home and/or regular workplace can be up to 7 minutes driving time from the fire station in Vaggeryd.
Open house events will be held where you can try out the firefighter profession and meet firefighters, as well as get answers to your questions, in Vaggeryd on Tuesday 14/1 from 17:00-19:00 and in Skillingaryd on Wednesday 15/1 from 17:00-19:00.
After an initial selection, the rescue service will invite candidates to a test day on Friday 7/2 from 13:00-17:00. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact someone from the rescue service!
QUALIFICATIONS
A good part-time firefighter:
- Has a desire to contribute to a safer community
- Has a caring and respectful attitude towards colleagues and the people they meet in their work.
- For the position, it is required that you understand and speak Swedish
The work as a part-time firefighter requires that you enjoy problem-solving, have good collaboration skills, are calm and stable, and want to be part of a genuine and cohesive team and can work under stress. You have a desire to help other people, and we place great importance on your personal qualities. You should be able to swim and achieve a satisfactory result in our job-related testing program. Additionally, a certificate from your regular employer is required to leave the workplace for alarms, training, and exercises, and your home and workplace must be located so that the maximum driving time to the fire station can be kept to 4 minutes; for FIP firefighters, the maximum driving time is 7 minutes.
A minimum of a B driver's license is required, and you must present a C license within 18 months of the employment date. The employer partially finances the training for this C license.
A completed and approved treadmill and medical test according to AFS 2023:15 (organized by the Vaggeryd Municipality Rescue Service)
