Description

The Environmental Supervision Unit works with supervision of environmentally hazardous activities and contaminated areas.

We work with various types of heavy industries, contaminated areas, wind farms, and quarries. Supervisory guidance to the county's municipalities is also included in the unit's tasks. The unit consists of 16 people with different backgrounds. We are now looking for 2-3 Environmental Officers.

Responsibilities

As an Environmental Officer, you will work with the supervision of environmentally hazardous activities. The work includes reviewing investigations, weighing different perspectives, making assessments, and writing decisions supported by legislation. The work also includes planning, conducting, reporting, and following up on supervision visits.

Due to the green transition, we need to strengthen with officers focusing on areas such as chemical industries, incineration plants, waste, sewage treatment plants, water protection areas, and the impact of industries on water recipients.

Although the work is largely independent, collaboration within the unit and between different areas of work is required. The work involves extensive contacts with, among others, operators, individuals, and other authorities. The work also includes guidance to municipal supervisory authorities. The work also means that you will support the County Administrative Board's internal work within your field.

Other tasks may also be relevant within the scope of the employment. The work as an Environmental Officer with us spans many different subject and competence areas. There are good opportunities to adapt your role and tasks to your competence.

The work involves some travel within the county.

Qualifications

You have a degree in natural sciences or engineering with a focus on environment, chemistry, energy, water, waste, or equivalent as deemed equivalent by the employer.

Experience in public administration, authority exercise, supervision/control, environmental law, and environmental auditing is advantageous. Particularly advantageous is experience in working with supervision under the Environmental Code.

You have good judgment, can make correct assessments and prioritizations, and can clearly and understandably motivate decisions made. You are good at collaborating and feel confident in contacts with companies, the public, media, and others who may be affected by our decisions on various issues. You need to be able to combine good collaboration skills with the ability to work independently and manage your own cases and tasks.

The work requires the ability to express yourself well in Swedish both verbally and in writing. Great emphasis will be placed on your personal qualities.

The tasks also require good knowledge of handling data in various software, e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook.

We expect you to be motivated and interested in working at a state authority with authority exercise.

Some positions at the County Administrative Board are classified as security positions. This may involve a security clearance and register check in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585) before employment. In some cases, Swedish citizenship is required. In the case of permanent employment, you will automatically be placed in a war position with us.
