Study and career counselors are present in all municipal primary and secondary schools. They work for the students and are neutral and impartial.

You will work with a central mandate but be placed close to the operations and share a workplace with other career counselors.

We are recruiting this position in parallel with the recruitment of another career counselor for a specific guidance assignment. You will be located at Tunaberg School and share an office, providing you with opportunities to collaborate.

Your assignment

We are now looking for a strategic coordinator for study and career guidance for primary schools in Uppsala Municipality. In this role, you will:

• Coordinate, develop, and make information about professions and possible career paths accessible to students in primary school and their guardians
• Coordinate, evaluate, and support the efforts of secondary schools focusing on vocational programs (guidance in a broad sense), for example, by assisting in the development of the schools' career guidance plans
• Work to ensure that students in secondary school have the opportunity to meet professions and professionals in the school environment, e.g., through mini fairs and coordinate outreach activities to primary schools such as Young Entrepreneurship, Worldskills Sweden, Yrkeskampen, various industry organizations, and authorities such as the Employment Service
• Promote increased labor market knowledge to empower school staff to support students in their choices for secondary education
• Ensure that initiatives to increase interest in vocational programs are shared with other career guidance functions, for example, through the career counselor network
• Ensure that informational materials are developed for vocational programs in languages other than Swedish
• Participate in relevant municipal collaboration forums. Initiate and coordinate professional development within primary and secondary schools, participate in joint projects, etc., for study and career counselors, based on common and specific needs for each school form
• Collaborate with secondary schools to enable work experience (PRAO) in vocational programs and to conduct trial days in vocational programs
• Map students' and guardians' attitudes towards vocational programs
• Assist in applying for external funding
• Provide suggestions on how study and career guidance can be improved, based on active environmental monitoring and in dialogue with study and career counselors and administrations
• Develop the municipality's information for youth regarding secondary education choices

The overarching goal of your assignment is to highlight vocational training and encourage more students to choose vocational preparatory education.

Your background

We are looking for someone who has completed the study and career counseling program or other education that the employer deems relevant for the position. The work requires that you also have experience in guiding children and young people. You should have good knowledge of both primary and secondary schools as well as regulations for study and career guidance. It is an advantage if you have worked as a study and career counselor in several different school forms; primary school, secondary school, adult education. Experience in managing overarching development projects and/or having a coordinating role similar to the function we are seeking is also a merit.

As a person, you are flexible and see opportunities in changes. Furthermore, you take initiative and start activities to achieve results. We also see that you are a communicative person who finds it easy to listen and adapt your way of communicating. The role of coordinator places high demands on the ability to lead, inspire, and motivate combined with a strong interest in development and improvement issues. You have good pedagogical skills and an understanding of people's different abilities to absorb knowledge, and you take responsibility and drive your work forward to achieve results. Additionally, you have good collaboration skills and relate to others in a responsive and smooth manner.
