About us The Dimension and Position unit is part of the Measurement Technology department at the Security and Transport division of RISE. We work with everything related to the measurement of length, position, and speed – always based on the meter. Our mission spans across industry, research, and society, and we operate both in our modern laboratories and in the field. By combining cutting-edge expertise in measurement technology, practical fieldwork, and future-oriented research, we contribute to ensuring that Swedish industry and society are at the forefront of measurability and precision.

We are the National Measurement Institute for length – in our laboratory, we conduct measurement technology of the highest class. Here, we are responsible for ensuring that traceability to international standards is maintained at the highest possible level. Our experts also work with advanced geometric measurements directly with customers in the field, primarily within the process and manufacturing industries. We also run a strong research portfolio, focusing specifically on dimension and position. This includes developing measurement technology in laser interferometry, RTK/GNSS, ADAS, and maritime environments.

We are a team of nearly 20 people, a mix of engineers and researchers located in Borås, Gothenburg, Örnsköldsvik, and Umeå. The placement for this position is in Borås. We currently operate under a hybrid work model that allows for splitting work time between the office and home.

About the role As an engineer, you will initially work on technical tasks and analysis, but the role also includes some responsibility for project management and customer relations. In the beginning, the focus will be on training and analysis work, but you will quickly become involved in projects that span from start to finish. The position covers two areas – the field group and the research group – where fieldwork is an important component of the research projects being conducted. The tasks include participating in national and international research and innovation projects focusing on analysis and calculations within geometric measurement technology, as well as supporting the field team through participation in fieldwork and with analysis and technical development in our labs. Travel is included in the role, sometimes requiring overnight stays. The position may be classified for security purposes, which means that a security clearance may be required in accordance with the Security Protection Act in the future.

Who are you? To succeed in this role, you have a degree in Mechanics, Technical Physics, Geophysics, or similar. Likely at the Master's level or another level. We tailor the role based on your knowledge and experience, which means you could be a recent graduate with strong drive and interest or have extensive experience in the field. You express yourself well in both Swedish and English, in speech and writing, and a driver's license B is a requirement. It is advantageous if you have experience in:

  • Measurement technology education
  • Industrial dimension and geometry measurement/3D scanning
  • Geodesy measurement/3D scanning
  • Commercial CAD environments, GIS, and/or specific measurement software

As a person, you are social, engaged, driven, and curious. Since we offer a lot of freedom and flexibility, it is important that you have good self-leadership and are used to planning your work independently. Furthermore, you are solution-oriented and have the courage to experiment and make decisions.

Are we a good match? As an engineer at RISE, you get a platform to create, influence, and develop. Here, you shape much of your work tasks yourself and are given the freedom to take your own initiatives. It is a role where you quickly become an important part of both national and international research and innovation projects, often at the absolute forefront of technology.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about technology development, curious, and enjoys thinking outside the box. You will have the chance to work with exciting and socially significant clients and help solve real problems. Welcome to Sweden's research institute and innovation partner.

Welcome with your application! If this sounds interesting and you want to know more, please contact the recruiting manager at Dimension and Position, Jörgen Spetz, +46 10 516 53 78. The application deadline is May 6, and selection and interviews will be conducted continuously during and after the application period. Our union representatives are: Ingemar Petermann, SACO, +46 10 228 41 22 and Linda Ikatti, Unionen, +46 10 516 51 61.
