Assistant Professor in Data-Driven Battery Research
The Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University (http://www.uu.se/institution/informationsteknologi) is engaged in research and education related to the processing and analysis of battery data as well as the integration of battery systems. In several established collaborations with the battery research group at Uppsala University, researchers at the department contribute expertise in AI, control, estimation, modeling, signal processing, optimization, and large-scale data collection. Related knowledge is also shared through master's level courses and supervision within academia and industry. The new assistant professor is invited to collaborate with the department's and COMPEL's researchers in an environment that supports the establishment of their own research group.
The focus of the position is on research, and the appointment comes with a generous startup package including two PhD students.
Description of the Subject Area:
Data-driven battery research is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on using large datasets to improve the understanding and performance of battery systems. Through advanced modeling and simulation, accurate predictions of behavior under various conditions are enabled, for example by developing digital twins of batteries. Control and optimization are central components to maximize efficiency and lifespan, while system design ensures that batteries are optimally integrated into various applications. The field combines methods from machine learning, physics-based modeling, control engineering, and systems engineering to drive innovation in battery technology and electrification.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching, research, and administration. Teaching includes course responsibility and course administration as well as supervision of PhD students and thesis work.
- Follow developments in the own subject area and societal developments that are relevant to the work at the university.
- Build up an independent research group within the department by defining and planning research activities within the framework of the subject area described above, applying for external research funding, and supervising PhD students.
- Interdisciplinary research with researchers within the COMPEL environment and promoting the growth of a research environment in IT-related battery research.
Employment Period:
The position as assistant professor can be held for a maximum of six years. The appointment as assistant professor aims to qualify for a teaching position for which higher requirements for eligibility are set. An assistant professor can apply for promotion to associate professor. If the assistant professor is deemed suitable and meets the requirements for promotion, they shall be promoted and permanently employed as an associate professor.
Eligibility Requirements:
- PhD in control engineering, machine learning, signal processing, computer science, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or another relevant field for the position. Primarily, applicants who have obtained their PhD or have achieved equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application deadline will be considered.
- Scientific and pedagogical proficiency. It is required that the pedagogical proficiency and scientific competence are relevant to the subject area of the position and the tasks to be included in the appointment.
- The applicant should have completed relevant higher education pedagogical training for university work covering five weeks or have acquired equivalent knowledge. If there are special reasons, the pedagogical training can be completed during the first two years of employment.
- Documented ability to teach in Swedish or English unless there are special reasons.
- Personal qualities required to fulfill the position well.
