We need more on-call firefighters

We have a recruitment need particularly at the stations in Fristad, Horred, Mjöbäck, Skene, Ulricehamn & Vegby

What does the job entail?

The job as an on-call firefighter primarily involves rescue work in connection with accidents. This can involve various types of interventions such as extinguishing fires and responding to traffic accidents. Many find the rescue service assignment to be a positive and interesting job, while also making a contribution to their community.

  • You will have on-call duties and participate regularly in drills and equipment maintenance
  • You will receive compensation according to the agreement for on-call rescue service personnel
  • You will receive paid basic training and annual health checks with fitness testing

How does on-call work?

The job as an on-call firefighter is alongside your regular job. Our on-call firefighters work in various fields including healthcare, education, crafts, operations, and maintenance. When you are on-call, you carry a pager that alerts you in case of an automatic alarm at an industry, a traffic accident, or a fire. To respond in time, you must not live or work too far from the fire station in your area.

Typically, our personnel are on-call every fourth week, but there may be opportunities for more flexible scheduling throughout the month.

In the videos below, two of our on-call firefighters, Mona and Oskar, introduce themselves. Listen to them talk about their work in the rescue service.

We will train you!

All new hires will undergo introductory and firefighting training. You do not need any prior education or experience in rescue work. You will be paid for the time you participate in responses, drills, and training as well as on-call compensation.

If you are unsure whether the job is right for you, you can have the opportunity to try the work for a shorter period through an internship. Please contact the station; internship periods start on April 1 and September 1.

Are you suitable for the job?

We are looking for someone who is fully healthy, has good fitness, and is a competent swimmer.

  • You must be at least 18 years old and a reliable person who wants to help others.
  • You need to live and/or work close to the relevant fire station.
  • You must have at least a B driver's license.
  • Willing to obtain a C driver's license if needed.
  • You also need your employer's consent to respond to alarms.
  • You should be able to start as soon as possible after agreement.

Personal suitability will be determined through employment tests, interviews, and medical examinations.

Steps before employment

To be hired as an on-call firefighter, three steps must be completed and approved.

1. Treadmill test

The treadmill test assesses physical work capacity and is performed wearing full alarm gear, with a weight of approximately 20 kilograms on your back, on a treadmill at an incline of eight degrees for six minutes. Your age determines the speed at which you perform the test, ranging from 5.6 km/h to 4.5 km/h.

Treadmill tests will be conducted on May 8-9

2. Employment test

On a full day, Friday, May 23, those who have passed the treadmill test will undergo five different test components;

  • Swimming tests
  • Height test, climbing on an extension ladder wearing fall protection equipment
  • Obstacle course, wearing complete firefighting gear
  • Gas house, work test under reduced visibility
  • Technical test
  • Interview

Most components are timed, so make sure to perform as well as possible.

Take a closer look at our employment tests in the video below. You can also read more about the employment tests on our career page under work with us, employment tests RiB

3. Health check

The health check is performed by our occupational health service and includes a general health check, testing for alcohol and drugs, and work and rest EKG. The examination takes about 1.5 hours.

The health examination is planned for June 16.

Please send your application as soon as possible, but no later than April 27. The treadmill test and tests including interviews will be conducted after the application period has ended (see dates above).

Welcome with your application

Submit your application by April 27
