Your Role

Do you have extensive experience with automation systems and are looking for a technically advanced and challenging role? We are looking for a senior automation engineer with expertise in PLC systems and software development, who wants to work with advanced solutions in ship automation and control systems. As a senior automation engineer, you will play a key role in the development of ship monitoring and control systems. You will work throughout the development chain, from concept development to commissioning, ensuring that our systems meet high standards of safety, robustness, and performance.

Your main responsibilities include:

• Design, implementation, and optimization of PLC-based control systems.
• Development and integration of software for advanced ship systems.
• Testing, verification, and commissioning of automation solutions onboard vessels.
• Hardware-near work with integration of control systems and sensors.
• Designing system architecture and requirements management in complex technical environments.
• Cross-functional collaboration with specialists in mechanics, IT architecture, and systems security.

The position is initially located in Malmö, but in Q4 2025 we will move to Lund. Travel to Karlskrona may occur.

Your Profile

We are looking for a master's degree engineer in automation, mechatronics, electrical engineering, or a similar field, with extensive experience in the development and implementation of PLC systems in complex industrial environments. The role requires strong knowledge in software development, real-time control, and industrial communication protocols, as well as experience in requirements management, system design, and model-based development. You should have documented experience in commissioning PLC systems and integration in large-scale projects, as well as a good ability to analyze technical problems and drive solutions from idea to implementation. Since the work is done in cross-functional teams, good collaboration skills are an important trait.

It is advantageous if you have knowledge of IT security in industrial control systems, experience in virtualization of such systems, or have led technical development projects and mentored junior colleagues.

The position requires you to undergo and be approved according to the applicable regulations for security protection. For positions where Saab has requirements for security classification, this may involve requirements for certain citizenship.
