The Environmental, Building and Rescue Administration is an organizational unit that handles building permits, conducts inspections according to e.g. LBE and LSO, and works with issues related to the Environmental Code and food legislation for the Environmental, Building and Rescue Committee, which is the responsible committee. The Environmental Department, consisting of 9 inspectors and an administrator, manages issues related to the Environmental Code, food, over-the-counter medications, health protection, as well as alcohol and tobacco.

Job Responsibilities

We offer you a stimulating and developing job with great personal responsibility and friendly colleagues. Your tasks will include supervision and processing of cases primarily within the environmental and health protection area. We make delegation decisions and prepare decision-making materials for the Environmental, Building and Rescue Committee, as well as provide information, guidance, and advice to both the public and businesses. You will primarily work with inspections of various activities within the environmental and health protection area and process and conduct inspections on incoming notification cases.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with education in the field of environmental and health protection or equivalent education, and a good understanding of working in a politically governed organization is an advantage. You should be computer literate since most case management and follow-up occur via various computer programs. The position requires you to be meticulous and have a very good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing. A significant part of the work involves contacts and information to the public. Therefore, it is important that you have excellent communication skills. To succeed in your role as an environmental inspector, you need to enjoy working both independently and in a team. You should be service-oriented and development-focused. You should have a good ability to plan and organize your work. Good judgment with decision-making ability is another important quality in the role of inspector. You have a genuine interest in helping others and strive to deliver solutions. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

A valid driver’s license (B) is required; the municipality has both cars and bicycles available.

Within the framework of the national minority language law, Gällivare municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is an advantage when applying for a position in Gällivare municipality.
