Department of Romance and Classical Languages

The Department of Romance and Classical Languages was established in August 2013 through a merger of institutions.

It is organizationally placed within the Faculty of Humanities in the field of human sciences. Academic education in classical languages has been offered for a long time at the university. Today, courses in Greek and Latin are offered at both undergraduate and advanced levels. The doctoral education leads to a PhD. The teaching covers texts written from 700 BC to the pre-modern era, and about fifty students study classical languages at the department. The teaching is mainly conducted by two lecturers and one professor. In addition, scientific research is conducted in the subjects, both linguistic and literary studies, as well as research in philology and text editing. An active research environment with seminars focused on literary studies, linguistics, philosophy, and medieval studies exists.

Job Responsibilities

The assistant will primarily provide support teaching in Greek and Latin to beginner students and secondarily assist with administrative tasks.

Qualifications

Eligible for employment as an assistant is someone who is a student at the undergraduate or advanced level, primarily at Stockholm University and otherwise at another university. Applicants should preferably have at least 60 higher education credits in Latin or equivalent subject competence. Higher education credits in Greek are strongly meritorious. The position also requires flexibility, good collaboration skills, and a service-oriented approach.

Experience in teaching and previous work with study administrative systems, such as Athena or another form of study administration, is meritorious.

The university will primarily consider applicants who, after a comprehensive assessment of competence, qualifications, skills, and personal abilities, have the best conditions to carry out the current job responsibilities and contribute to a positive development of the operations. About the Position

The position comprises 40 percent and is fixed-term from 2025-08-25 to 2026-08-25, with the possibility of extension for a maximum of two years.
