Sigtuna Culture School - a creative meeting place in Sigtuna municipality! We are a culture school with about 30 teachers in music, dance, drama/theater, and visual arts, teaching children and young people aged 0 - 21 years. In addition to regular subject teaching, we conduct a lot of outreach activities and collaborate with schools through, among other things, co-teaching, cultural pools, and cultural classes. We use the platform StudyAlong.
We want to be an important place for children and young people and meet them on their terms. We want to provide them with good conditions for community, self-esteem, and development. We aim to run a culture school in development that, with openness, creativity, and environmental analysis, continues to be current and relevant in a changing society. The culture school is part of the Culture and Leisure Administration.
The Culture and Leisure Administration in Sigtuna municipality works to promote cultural and leisure activities in the municipality; we are a workplace that wants to make a difference! We are a politically governed service organization where our clients are the residents. We work together in our various operations to find new ideas and solutions that contribute to residents' quality of life, sustainability, and health, as well as increased integration and combating exclusion.
The administration consists of five operational areas that encompass:
- Leisure, sports, swimming pools, ice rinks, and association activities
- Performing arts, film, theater, art, music, museums, libraries, and cultural heritage
- Youth culture, leisure activities, culture school, and fieldwork
JOB DESCRIPTION
60 - 80 % music teacher with a focus on piano
We are looking for a versatile and outgoing music teacher with a primary focus on piano. Together with our music teachers, you will drive and develop the culture school's piano teaching and activities.
The position involves:
- Teaching children and young people piano/keyboard, both individually and in groups.
- Taking responsibility for student groups and fostering good dialogue with students and their guardians.
- Independently and together with colleagues plan and conduct teaching, concerts, performances, and other outreach activities, as well as a few days of holiday courses each school year.
- Actively working on student recruitment and the culture school's internal work and development.
- Handling certain administrative tasks such as scheduling and managing StudyAlong.
The work may include creating collaborations with other parts of the Culture and Leisure Administration, such as museums, libraries, and youth centers. Commissioned work within schools and leisure activities may also occur.
The position is primarily scheduled for weekdays and evenings, but weekend work may occur.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who has:
- A music teacher's degree with piano as the main instrument, or another education deemed equivalent.
- Experience teaching children and young people piano in groups.
- High subject competence and musical breadth, from classical to pop/rock/jazz is meritorious.
- Experience as an accompanist and/or experience playing in bands and arranging music is meritorious.
- Good IT skills and knowledge of digital tools is meritorious.
You are curious and proactive, enjoy thinking outside the box, and easily find solutions to problems. You are a person with good empathetic skills who easily creates new relationships and is good at fostering participation, engagement, and progression in your teaching. You enjoy collaborating with colleagues, are attentive, interested, and good at communicating and having fun at work. You handle stress constructively, maintain a good mood in adversity, and take good care of yourself.
As Sigtuna Culture School actively strives to reach children and young people who have not previously sought our activities, it is important that you are interested in and motivated to work with inclusive methods and approaches. Previous experience in similar work is a significant advantage.
