About the Role and Your Responsibilities

As a school librarian, you will work pedagogically and socially based on the organization's common goals and guidelines as well as applicable governing documents.

You are well acquainted with the current curriculum and are responsible for ensuring that the school library functions as a pedagogical resource in teaching. Together with the school management and educators, you will promote students' language development, reading enthusiasm, and digital competence. Lund Municipality's library program and a joint action plan for school libraries serve as guidance in your work.

The school library in Lund Municipality is a central part of students' learning. You will work closely with teachers to create inspiring and developing library activities that strengthen students' reading skills and information literacy. Your responsibilities include:

Reading promotion work – Through book talks, read-aloud sessions, and creative projects, you inspire students to read and discover literature.
Library management – Responsible for the library's media collection, lending system, and the development of an accessible and inspiring library and reading environment.
Digital competence and information retrieval – Introduce students to source criticism and basic information management at an age-appropriate level.
Collaboration with educators – Plan and implement reading projects and support teaching in various subjects with relevant books and digital tools. Through the school librarian's expertise, you are also an important resource for the entire organization.
A safe and inspiring meeting place – Create an inclusive environment where all students feel welcome and encouraged to explore the library's offerings.

We are looking for you

We are looking for someone with a bachelor's degree in library and information science.

It is advantageous if you have:

Experience working with children aged 6–9 years, preferably in a school environment.
Good understanding of children's language development and reading acquisition.
Experience working with digital resources and information retrieval.
Ability to collaborate with educators and adapt the library's activities to the needs of the school.

We welcome both experienced school librarians and recent graduates with a strong commitment to working with children and literature.

The position will be filled provided that it is not required by already permanently employed staff.

About the Workplaces

You will have a shared position at two schools; Backaskolan and Klostergårdsskolan.

On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, you will be at Backaskolan, which is a K-3 school in Lund with a strong focus on students' curiosity, language development, and safety. We actively work to create a stimulating learning environment where the library plays an important role in teaching. The school has good commuting options with public transport and an engaged staff group that is passionate about students' learning and development.

As a school librarian at Backaskolan, you will have the opportunity to influence and develop the library's activities and work closely with teachers and students. Klostergårdskolan is a K-6 school in southern Lund. Here, we work together to create the best school for our students. We have a holistic view of each student's learning and development, and we know that well-being, social contexts, and learning are interconnected and dependent on each other. Strengthening students' language skills is at the center of our development work, and we are now looking for an engaged school librarian who wants to contribute with their expertise and ideas!

The school library at Klostergårdskolan is currently under construction, and in collaboration with teachers, students, and school management, you will shape the content of the activities. The library room is located close to the school's after-school center, which creates good opportunities for creative collaborations – both during and after school hours. In the surrounding area, there is also Mötesplats Klostergården, with a public library and youth center.

In Lund Municipality, there is an active network of school librarians who meet regularly for collegial learning and experience exchange. As a school librarian in the children's and school administration, you also have access to a centrally located coordination function, where you can turn for advice, support, and guidance on school library issues.

In the children's and school administration, we work to create equity and good conditions for all children and students in our preschools, primary schools, and adapted primary schools to achieve their goals.
