Librarian Wanted at Malmö Magistratsgymnasium

We are looking for an engaged and creative school librarian who wants to help shape the future at Malmö Magistratsgymnasium. As our first school librarian, you will play a key role in establishing a school library with a strong pedagogical focus, an accessible and inspiring place that provides our students with tools to grow in their learning. In close collaboration with teachers and other staff, you will work to integrate the library into teaching and develop methods that support students' learning and development.

Responsibilities

As a librarian, you will work on the development of the school's ICT-promoting efforts. You will support staff and students in this development by:

• Developing and updating the library's website
• Being responsible for creating and updating search guides
• In collaboration with teaching teachers, planning and conducting progression-oriented information search and source criticism education
• Guiding teachers and other staff in the use of digital information sources
• Conducting book talks
• Developing students' willingness and ability to read
• Developing the school's digital information and communication systems
• Continuously developing physical and digital literature dissemination functions
• Working at the information desk
• Media work such as purchasing, cataloging, weeding, and signage

As a librarian, you work for lifelong learning and thus a positive development for students; an interest in literature and culture is therefore important.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree (180 higher education credits) with 90 credits in the main subject of library and information science
• Good digital competence
• Very good Swedish in speech and writing

Meritorious:

• Pedagogical education or similar
• Courses focused on ICT (30 credits) within your education
• Experience working as a librarian
• Experience working with youth
• Knowledge of multiple languages
• Experience working within high school introductory programs or special education groups in primary school (grades 7-9)

As a person, you are communicative, service-oriented, and creative as you daily encounter new questions and information problems in conversations with visitors. You meet visitors attentively and accommodatingly, and to break down information problems into different parts and see connections, you need to be analytical. The work involves collecting and structuring various media, which requires you to be organized and able to effectively prioritize activities.

About the Workplace

Malmö Magistratsgymnasium is a smaller school unit in central Malmö for students studying individual alternatives (IMA) or vocational introduction (IMY). A few places will also be available for students from other high schools who temporarily need a different placement. At Malmö Magistratsgymnasium, the individual student is at the center, and great importance is placed on contributing to future belief, independence, and motivation.
