Support Assistants for Älgvägen Short-Term Accommodation

The Disability Care Services in Umeå municipality aims to be a resource that liberates and strengthens people's ability to live an independent life through closeness and interaction.

Älgvägen short-term accommodation is part of the disability care services and offers children and young people with LSS decisions a safe, structured, and development-oriented environment where the individual's needs and conditions are at the center.

The short-term stay provides a change of environment, opportunities for leisure activities, and social community while also serving as relief for families.

We are now looking for two support assistants for Älgvägen!

Your Responsibilities

As a staff member at Älgvägen short-term accommodation, you are part of a team that works to create a safe, meaningful, and developing stay for children and young people. Together with your colleagues, you support the individual's ability to live as independently as possible and contribute to a stimulating and safe environment.

You actively participate in the daily routines of the children and young people by assisting with daily tasks such as meals, cleaning, laundry, and personal care. You plan and implement activities such as walks, play, crafts, and games to promote social participation and meaningful leisure time. An important part of the job is also to collaborate with parents and ensure that each child receives the support they need.

Your work also includes documentation, record-keeping, creating implementation plans, and medication management.

Threats and violence may occur in the workplace.

Scheduled working hours include days, evenings, weekends, and night shifts. Coordination within the disability sector for children/youth is part of the job.

About You

You are a calm and secure person with good collaboration skills and a professional approach towards users, relatives, and other actors around our users. You have previously worked in environments where threats and violence may occur and have the ability to handle these situations professionally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability for the position.

Requirements

  • Care and nursing program, child and leisure program, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer
  • Experience working with children or adults with autism.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with low-arousal responses in situations of threats and violence.
  • Experience with alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) and sign language as alternative and augmentative communication (SAC)
  • Experience working with acting-out children or adults
  • Experience with clear pedagogical methods

To communicate with users, relatives, and colleagues, and to write and access care documentation, you must have good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written forms.
